cellar (410), Dublin, Ireland Nov 17, 2008 Pitch black w tiny head. Strong malty aroma of dark chocolate and coffee with nice notes of whisky, wood, spices and hops. Complex. Aroma of black roasted malts and an acidic oakyness. Medium body with dry, hard roasted malt accents and again oak. Distinct underlying acidity as in all of the barrel-aged Braunsteins, in this one it works perfectly. Ends with a discreet malt bitterness. 140908 austone (579), Turku; Pori, Finland Oct 15, 2008 Draught at EBF. Black, thick brown head. Strong oaky, vanilla nose, lotsa dill. Sourish oaky flavor, quite salty actually. Medium bodied, a bit watery palate. Somesort of an oak concentrate? harrisoni (5474), Ashford, Kent, England Oct 11, 2008 On tap at EBF 08. Black, thin tan head. Nice powdery choc, but a little uncultured. Bit dull. Not that good. Maria (4725), Thisted, Denmark Oct 7, 2008 EBF2008. It’s a pitch black beer with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, coffee, licorice and wood. The flavour has a light sweetness and a roasted bitterness, notes of roasted malt, berries, citrus, a dry tannic acid, light bourbon, oak, licorice and the finish is long.
