pilsnerrogge (1554), Finspång, Sweden May 10, 2008 Bottle(2006) Pours brown with very little head. Aroma is sweet and somewhat sour (infected?). Flavour is sweet with notes of currants and liquorice. Alcohol is well hidden. An empty and boring Doppelbock.
Bov (4558), Bienne, Switzerland Jul 1, 2008 courtesy of Per Forsgren; #897 - pours a dark bordeaux colour with almost no foam left; aroma of prune with a touch of licorice; good and regular carbonation; robust malt body and with a moderate sweetness and bitterness; aftertaste of caramel and apple - not bad but with not much character and I fail to see improving aging potential here uhre (185), Denmark Jun 24, 2008 The aroma has prunes, alcohol. It is dark brown without head. The flavor is complex with fruit, alcohol, malt and caramel - it’s very sweet.
This beer was not as good as I hoped for, but if it had been aged for several years I think it would gain a lot. omhper (10141), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 19, 2008 Bottled (2006 vintage) Mahogany colour, minimal head. Coffeeish nose. Sweet and near full bodied. Lots of grass, butterscotch and toffee. A caramelly and chocoaletey doppelbock plus. I like the grainy, rustic house character of Braunstein. Most of their beers are more solid than adventurous, but this is both. MaxxDaddy (207), New York, New York, USA Apr 9, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Papsoe, I think. Pours light brown with white head. Aroma is very sugary, with some toffee and cocoa powder in the mix. Sadly, the beer doesn’t have much flavor to go with it. Slightly malty, but nondescript. A bit thin on the palate and the finish is pretty much the same as the flavor.
