yespr (7782), Copenhagen O, Denmark Sep 19, 2008 From tap. Pours cloudy orange with a lacing off-white head. Aroma is fruity and mild acidic to lacto bacteria like. Flavour is smooth and fruity with a light acidic note. Dry and slight phenolic finish.
austone (579), Turku; Pori, Finland Oct 20, 2008 Draught at EBF. Red copper, not much head. Rusty, oaky, simple aroma. Sourish, oaky, bland flavor, some dry fruitiness. Very light for a barley wine, extremely unbalanced oakiness. Considering how bad Black Oak was, they should really stay away from the barrels. Papsoe (11030), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 15, 2008 (On tap) Hazy orangey brown with a creamy, beige head. Lightly tart aroma of wood. Medium body with a little caramel but otherwise dominated by a distinct tartness and woody accents. Also the finish is sourish. Somehow this didn’t quite come out right. 130908 harrisoni (5474), Ashford, Kent, England Oct 11, 2008 On tap at EBF 08. Deep amber, lasting beige head. Good fruit on aroma. It’s not that good, bit of oak. Some peach fruit, could be better. Maria (4725), Thisted, Denmark Oct 7, 2008 EBF2008. It’s slightly hazy, dark, red mahogany and the head is creamy. The aroma has notes of wood, citrus and slightly sour berries. The flavour is a lot like an oak aged barley wine, but it does have unexpected notes of sour berries. Refreshing and very different, maybe a bit too sour IMO. Rune (1839), Tromsø, Norway Oct 2, 2008 Firm beige head resting on top of a dark, amber body. Laceworks on the glass. Initial floral smell, then turning into hop resin. Plenty of dark fruits and berries, with an underlying bourbon touch. Alcohol tartness on the swallow (on tap at EBF, 14.09.2008).
