JoeinUccle (659), Brussels, Belgium Apr 7, 2008 This was my unexpected favorite at our impromptu tasting, thanks Sebastian. Also this bottle had some age on it. The bottle was still alive and gushing foam all over my dining room table, even after we’d poured more than half already. Go get a towel, or the dog. Quite an entrance. Pours deep golden-orange with a big white head like Duvel on steroids. Big, yeasty, fruity nose, notes of pears, oranges, pineapple. Flavor was very reasonably sweet, with more of those bright fruit notes, rolling in perfect time to a moderate and welcome bitterness. Great balance, I thought. Taking a step back from the details, it was frankly delicious. Hildigöltur (5051), København Ø, Denmark Jun 27, 2007 Bottled. Hazy yellow coloured. Huge aroma of Ahlgrens Bilar. Sweetish herbal hoppy flavour with a very dry finish. Very interesting and pleasant.
Hopfiger, zunehmend würziger Abgang. cgarvieuk (2315), Edinburgh, Scotland Jun 5, 2007 Thanks to Joris for hosting and world traveler Sebastion for the beer... Murky yellow ... wet nappies !!! little smokey nose ... Juicy hop resins ... very complex .. tart hops ... rich.
jbrus (4095), Delft, Netherlands Sep 10, 2007 Bottle@LCRBM. Citric and malty aroma. Hazy, yellow color, off-white head, good lace. Sweet with sour citrus strongly there, bitter in the finish. Full and sticky. If this really is a Heller Doppelbock then it’s one of the best I ever had. But that’s because it’s more like a Belgian Strong Ale.
