Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is filled with caramel malts with a nice roasted quality to it. Flavor is some chocolate with a bit of a nutty aftertaste. Leaves a little coffee on the tounge after the swallow. This is a soild schwartz with lots of flavor profile for a German beer

Pours a deep brown color with a small head. The aroma is roasty coffee some chocolate and a light fruitiness. The flavor is roasty and fruity but distractingly vegetal with some good coffee notes.

Bottle at Cock & Bull Pub. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting and produced good lacing. Moderate roasted malt and bread aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid brew.

Deep brown body with some ruby at the edges. There was also a large light brown and tan head. Malty with some strong anise notes in the nose. There was also some light wood smoke with a little bit of moss. The taste is largely anise, both up front and in the finish. There is also a little bit of green wood and coffee, but it is subtle. This one is all about the black licorice. This also seemed a little salty in the finish. Overall, a decent beer, but dry with a need for some sweetness.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of frothy tan colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a semi-opaque softly carbonated dark ruby red brown colored body. The mild aroma was brown black and red malts. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and strongly tingly at the finish. The flavor contained notes of mild roasted malt dark malt and brown malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

The bottle looks simple, but good. The beer in the glass is not really black, deep brown, small head. Starts really mild, modest roasty-smoky, fine malty. Finish still mild, soft like velvet, very drinkable. Good schwarzbier!

Bottle from Pat’s Liquors in Porter, IN: Nice pour, a dark chestnut brown body with a tall, foamy beige head that provided much lacing. The aroma was dark chewy caramel with some lightly roasted dark malt. The flavor added a touch of cocoa and a soft nutty bitterness. Not bad.
