Commercial Description:
Extra, extra? You better believe it. We like to say it’s double extra special. The balance of malt and hops makes it truly one-of-a-kind. Warming malt notes at the onset with a hop kick in the back and opens up to a nice dry finish. Our small batch ESB is a big, strong traditional ale with characteristics that break tradition and a complexity that constantly surprises.

Bottle from BeerandBlues2, murky amber-brown pour with a nice off-white type head, solid lacing. The aroma was caramel malts, toffee, fruity esters, some citrus type hops. The flavor followed suit, notes of bread, honey, finishing with a spicey hop touch, slight bitterness. Full malty mouthfeel, but it finishes smooth. Thanks, Brad, nice one.

Hazy amber pour with a medium creamy off white head. Aroma was nice, mildly hoppy, doughy. Taste matched aroma, added yeast and a touch of citrus. Hides the kick well in the finish. Nice.

Copper pour with a decent head and nice lacing. Nice malt/hop balance in both flavor and aroma. Nothing big, nothing special. ABV well hidden and went down quick. This is one of those solid mid level beers that has some bang. $10.49 a six.

Pours a clear dark copper with a rocky, beige head and nice lacing. Bready malt with a floral hop backing and a slightly astringent note on the nose. Soft and creamy, yet fairly light-bodied, the mouthfeel concludes with a pronounced, lingering hop bitterness. I’m not sure that I’ve ever experienced a beer with a palate quite like this one. Bready malt upfront with a quick transition to a big hit of spicy, floral hops, at the finish, and lasting into the slightly dry and bitter aftertaste. This is definitely an "amped up" ESB, with the emphasis on the hops vs the malt. I was hoping for a flavor profile similar to Clipper City Heavy Seas Winter Storm, but I got something quite different. Not particularly balanced, I think that pulling back a bit on the hops (and I love hops), would make this a better beer.

Looks like dark iced tea, no head. Bready ale-ish attractive fragrance. On the tongue it is quite bitter., extra bitter. Back throat attack. Very slight creamy carbonation. Terrible medicine finish.

This was followed after a 471 Small Batch IPA which was pretty good. This is really a small step down in all of the categories, but still quite a good brew. The aroma is sweet, the mouthfeel is smooth. Hops are a little less apparent but the smoothness is constant. Head and lacing are about on par for this type of beer. Overall a nice choice.

Bottle. Pours a dark, clear amber with off white medium head with good retention. Aroma of floral & citris notes with nice sweet smell. Flavor of medium-dark sweet caramel with medium bitterness. Full bodied mouthfeel, medium carbonation....tasty brew!

Light brown pour with a long lasting tan head. Aroma is bisquit malt and some honey. Body is what I would expect from 7.8 percent. Nicely carbonated. More bisquit, toffee and toasted malts. Hops are evident towards the finish but this is a nice, woodsy, earthy ESB. I like it!
