Aroma is light but has a bit of malt with some crisp hops. Fine, but not very distinct. Nice pine bitterness well balanced with malty grain equally balanced all the way through. Good. Semi-dry medium body. ilikestuff (222), Fort Worth, Texas, USA

Mouthfeel is undercorbonated with high levels of esters and a very aparent alcohol flavor. I don’t think I’ll try this one again. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 15, 2007 Great ESB here. One of the better beers I’ve tasted. Big malty flavors with plenty of hoppy bitterness to smooth things out. Very powerful flavor goes down great! lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 3/5 | 4/20 | Oct 14, 2007 In one word, Awful. Woulda much rather had the Sapporo I threw out before this. Pour is a nice dark maroon, clear, and the positives end there. Unique, malty licorice like, very belgiany smell for some reason. Oh and lots of alcohol. Taste is like a dark belgian, but with a load of alcohol ruining what pleasant qualities lots find in the aforementioned part. Metal, some light bitterness and the drinkability on this is horrendous. Couldn’t stomach more than about 3 ounces. One-of-a-kind, and thank god for that... Strykzone (1497), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 1, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a small head. Aroma is sweet and malty but with a hint of hop in the background. Flavor is of well roasted malt and the alcohol immediately warms. Dry chocolate and an occasional dark fruit make their way into the flavor. A deep dry bitterness builds to the end. This is a delicious beer and has lots of personality. Aromas of lots of toasted and caramel malts with a good amount of cascade hops. Flavor is mostly those same toasted and caramel malts. A good amount of citrus finds it’s way through too. Slight bitterness at the finish makes you come back for another sip. Palate seems pretty well balanced with lively carbonation. Pretty nice djd07 (753), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 27, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a medium frothy off white head. The aroma is a toasted malt and spicy hops. Very good lacing on this one. The taste is a sweet malt with a spicy finish. Very easy to drink and an all around impressive ESB.
