Commercial Description:
Extra, extra? You better believe it. We like to say it’s double extra special. The balance of malt and hops makes it truly one-of-a-kind. Warming malt notes at the onset with a hop kick in the back and opens up to a nice dry finish. Our small batch ESB is a big, strong traditional ale with characteristics that break tradition and a complexity that constantly surprises.

Bottled at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm. almost clear copper colour, fairly rich head. Resiny nose with caramel underneath. Toffe and cardboard simmers in molasses. Sweet with resiny hops and solid body. Warming, sure, but also rough and sketchy.

Dark red, almost brown. Smell was malty and just ok. The taste was more malt, some caramel, no hops that I could find but the alcohol was certainly there. Mouthfeel was a little thick. This beer was alright but I think if it had a lower ABV it would be much better because I could drink more than one and the mouthfeel would be thinner. On tap at the brewpub near Coors Field on 7/18/09. Pours a great dark orange with light bubbly cream head. Aroma dominated by hops. Taste has noting initially on the tongue, then just a touch of sweetnes followed by a huge long slow bitter finish. Light bodied.

Bottle. Pours amber with little off white head. Aroma is sweet malt with notes of dark fruit and a slight hop bitterness. Flavor starts sweet and malty with caramel notes, then quickly turns to hop bitterness and citrus flavors on the back of the palette.

Bottle from Archer Liquor. Pours a hazy amber with a miniscule head. Aroma is vinous, suggesting cooked light stone fruit. Full bodied with light, creamy carbonation. Flavor is cooked caramel, cooked peach and nectarine pit. Beyond that it’s dirty/earthy and a little citrusy. Finishes strongly and astringently stone fruity. Bitter? Yea, but it’s it’s a fruit pit/skin kind of bitter. So it drinks really, really great. It does.

Reviewed 7/17/2009 (bottle): Pours a chestnut reddish brown colored body, with a big foamy, frothy off-white head, somewhat lasting. English maltiness in the aroma. Some bitterness too, citrusy. Earthy. Earthy taste, some slight bitterness. Malty sweet. Pretty tasty brew.
