| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 7, 2009 Bottle. Excellent pour -- mahogoney brown with a rising torrent of tight foam settling into a quiet foam. The aroma hints at a rich brew, and indeed this drinks with a big malty character. Full of caramel, this beer finishes with a nice twist of a bitter end. Strong bitter. (#3630, 8/7/2009) jstraw (776), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Could just as well be an American pale ale. dionysus (119), Arizona, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 25, 2009 Bottle pours amber in color with ruby highlights and a frothy off-white head. The aroma is mostly bready/doughy with some notes of caramel and mild earthy hops. The flavor is extremely well balanced showing caramel, toffee, nuts, and a mild peat. Based on the number of "muted hop" comments, i’m starting to believe people have a misconceived notion that an ESB is supposed to be an IPA. It’s a shame that people don’t appreciate this one for what it is...... well structured. sneagrams3 (1761), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 22, 2009 Tasted 7/22/09. 22oz bomber. Dark amber hue with a layer of off-white head. Piney hops and Taosty malts in the nose. Mild citrus and esters. Good sweet malt kick with hints of toffee and toasted sweet breads. The malt only lasts so long, then quickly replaced by the piney and earthy hop flavor. Mildly sticky, with enough octane to notice, but not detract. Good muted hop flavor. The hops really roll well within the palate of the malt character. The bitterness prevails, but the cloying malts tag along for the duration of the finish. msante79 (849), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 11, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours hazy dark reddish brown with off-white head. Aroma is hops, caramel malt, some nuttyness and citrus. Flavor is hops, toffee, caramel, citrus, and some peat. Pretty hoppy for a ESB and has some nice spicyness to eat. Pretty solid brew. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 24, 2009 Hazy auburn color. Aged hop smell with sweet/sour. Interesting and thick. Very different for an ESB.. It has a hoppy taste that disappears on the finish. Data would say it was, "most intriguing". stephenbush (17), Austin, Texas, USA
