Commercial Description:
Hoppy? Brother, 471 redefines hoppy. 471 is a small batch, limited edition ale that was created by our Brewmaster to separate the weak from the strong. 471 is a double IPA, that combines Pale, Munich, Caramel-30, Carapils and Torrified Wheat malts, with Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Fuggles hops. It has a big sweet mouthfeel, followed by more hoppiness than you've ever had at one time. Enjoy. (Available at Breckenridge Pubs and Restaurants and bottled as 471 Small Batch Double Hopped IPA.)

Slightly hazy orange/amber coloured body with a small tan head. Aroma of fresh hops, citrus, pineapple, curacao and some sweet caramel. Medium-bodied; Spicey taste up front with some sweet tastes followed by a little hoppiness - not much at all for a ’double hopped’ beer! Aftertaste clean and a bit bitter. Overall, decent, not like the name suggests - so don’t expect an IPA even! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 28-May-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Hazy, orange-copper body with a dense, creamy, inch thick off-white head that dissipates slowly and remains moderately lacy. Big aroma of juicy citrus floral hops and sweet caramel malts. Sugary grapefruit and a distinct dry hopped aroma. Flavor is very sweet and hoppy as well. Lots of caramel malts balanced very well with the big citrus piney hops. Finishes a little dry and bitter, but not as hard as I was expecting. Long lasting and soft. Palate is medium to full and pretty straightforward. No hint of booze. Overall, a really good DIPA. Sweet, hoppy, and very tasty.

Bright clear orange gold, moderate off-white head. Wonderful resinous and citrus hop aroma. As expected, the hops are king in this tasty brew, malts take a backseat but are proportioned enough for good balance. Very tasty!

22oz bottle. Pours clear, copper orange color. Thin, rocky, off white head. Big hop aroma, with scents of pine and citrus. This is what an American IPA should smell like. Hint of clam juice. Flavor is a nice caramel malt sweetness, balanced with a strong powerful hop bitterness. Bonus from the hops. This is a great beer because of those heavenly green flowers. Bitter and floral notes linger on the palate. medium bodied, very good. A great gateway beer.

Bottle, pours and orange and copper color. Aroma of pine and slight caramel notes. This is a very nice beer. Just the right amount of hops with a strong malt with caramel notes backing it. Well balanced and smooth for an IPA. Very tasty.

Bottle. Pours clear orange with a massive pale yellow head that produces sheets of lace. Aroma: grapefruit, pine earth and caramel. Sweet citrus and caramel taste, a bit earthy. Big grapefruit pith and pine punch on the finish.

12 oz bottle. Pours a rich golden color with a big white head of tightly packed bubbles and great retention and wonderful lacing. Aroma is very pine and a touch of citrus. Very big nose on this beer. Flavor is big citrus fruit flavors, grapefruit & mango. There is a huge malt backbone on this beer to make it very balanced. This is a very very solid IIPA. Well worth seeking out.

Bottle in Charlottesville. Coppery. Pine scent. Fairly hoppy with citrus and pine in the flavor. Nothing special really.
