Pours a rich golden color with a big white head of tightly packed bubbles and great retention and wonderful lacing. Aroma is very pine and a touch of citrus. Very big nose on this beer. Flavor is big citrus fruit flavors, grapefruit & mango. There is a huge malt backbone on this beer to make it very balanced. This is a very very solid IIPA. Well worth seeking out. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 11, 2008 Bottle. Pours coppery in color and very slightly hazy, with fluffy persistant head. Smells citrusy and piney and a little malty. Tastes very citrusy, like grapefruit or tangerine up front, followed by some pineyness and some floral notes. Malt tastes a little dark and rich, but very smooth. A very rich tasting beer, but slightly thin on the aftertaste Very good beer. ajm (947), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 10, 2008 Bottle from Sundevil. A boring bottle from Sundevil, but I just had to know! Smells full, with tart plum, yellow apple, sour hops. Tastes much the same with the Dogfish style hops dominating. More syrupy than I like my IPAs. If you could extract brew a DIPA, I bet it would taste like this. msante79 (835), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 4, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours orangish copper with white head. Aroma is floral and hoppy with grapefruit and other bright citrus flavors. Flavor hoppy with citrus flavors, pine and good amount of malt. Finishes bitter and a little soapy. Lacking in hop department for a double IPA. Decent brew. Dmalone102 (218), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 30, 2008 It was $12 for a 6-pack, but well worth it! The 471 IPA is exactly what I want out of a double IPA. Beautiful copper color with great clarity and a good head. The aroma is bright and hoppy, kind of spicy. The taste is very balanced, with lots of hops up front to give it a great flavor. You can hardly tell that it’s 9.2% abv, which makes it a dangerous beer. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
