Commercial Description:
Hoppy? Brother, 471 redefines hoppy. 471 is a small batch, limited edition ale that was created by our Brewmaster to separate the weak from the strong. 471 is a double IPA, that combines Pale, Munich, Caramel-30, Carapils and Torrified Wheat malts, with Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Fuggles hops. It has a big sweet mouthfeel, followed by more hoppiness than you've ever had at one time. Enjoy. (Available at Breckenridge Pubs and Restaurants and bottled as 471 Small Batch Double Hopped IPA.)

Big nose, lovely floral overtones, great bitternes, fine balance, great finish. The hopping was very well done.

22oz. Nice suprise getting this one in the mail from my brother on vacation in WI. Very nice hoppy taste and aroma, not too acidic. Lays on the palate awhile, (which I like), good beer.

Cloudy orange with a lacy & frothy light beige head. Aroma of bread, citrus, caramel, mild alcohol with some mild sour qualities to it. Taste of citrus hops, sweet malt, resin, brown sugar, grapefruit and mild alcohol. Back end bitterness that’s a step down from the top tier imperial IPA’s. Good for a Breckenridge.

Mama mia, what a nice beer. I think that this brewery is very inventive. They have so many different styles, some are not so great, and others are awesome. This falls on the side of awesome. Very bubbly head that does not fade away fast. The beer is very transparent. Nice gold/caramel/brown. This beer could be a bit more naturally translucent, but I don’t mind the filtering. Very hoppy aroma. This beer is so friggin hoppy I don’t even have to attempt to smell it. Some beers I have to inject the beer in the glands of my nose to smell it, but this beer is just so pungent. Great Imperial/Double aroma. The hops and malts are dancing in harmony as they bring me closer to intoxication. The beer is very creamy and has an average palate. The beer has a nice ABV which is great. The beer has a strong hop and malt taste. Hops dominate and are extremely delicious. What a nice beer. 2nd time trying this one. Halloa!

Strong aroma of hops... pours dark golden with very little head... taste is bitter with plenty of hops... pretty much masks other flavors... has a clean bitter finish

Ended up with a couple singles from a local stop. I was not too impressed initially, but the beer got better as I settled in. Pleasing aroma of mixed citrus, primarily grapefruit along with plenty of malty sweetness. Glowing amber-copper pour with a smaller off white head and moderate lacing. Plenty of small bubbles from a steady carbonation to keep the eyes entertained. Resinous and smoothly sweet. It’s medium bodied and surprisingly drinkable. Caramel, toffee, and sugar flavors are immediately flooded by a puckering grapefruit bitterness. Aftertaste is very bittering. This is the first IPA or DIPA I’ve had in quite some time, and it satisfied the hop craving. Middle tier in my opinion, but worth the purchase.

In their brewpub refrigerator, the 471 stands out above all the rest of Breckenridge Brewery’s beers, decorated like it is in an altogether separate and elevated class. Breckenridge Brewery’s nobler beer, perhaps. The virbant dark orange body gives way to a top-white foam. The aroma first strikes with a mild prick, tipped with orange, mild hops, brass and other metallic qualities with a hint of pomegranate and juniper to drag the aroma back into the botanical world. The taste, far from being the aroma’s balance of sweet and bitter, is simply bitter. An intense bitterness, followed by an acidic pineapple flavor, a fresh wave of hops raspiness and a finish of dry hops and alcohol. Pretty harsh, or at least, too harsh for this palate.
