Commercial Description:
Hoppy? Brother, 471 redefines hoppy. 471 is a small batch, limited edition ale that was created by our Brewmaster to separate the weak from the strong. 471 is a double IPA, that combines Pale, Munich, Caramel-30, Carapils and Torrified Wheat malts, with Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Fuggles hops. It has a big sweet mouthfeel, followed by more hoppiness than you've ever had at one time. Enjoy. (Available at Breckenridge Pubs and Restaurants and bottled as 471 Small Batch Double Hopped IPA.)

Pours golden amber with few bubbles and a sudsy/creamy off-white head. Lovely citrus hop aroma, smells kind of salty and a bit of pine. Ha... that is an interesting flavor. Soapy bitterness with some caramel malts at first. Not a lot of carbonation..kinda flat and dull in the mouth. This is hop juice regardless of what Two Brothers thinks. Modest amount of grapefruit, pineapple and caramel malts.... pretty sweet and sugary. Pretty dry finish, although the alcohol is kinda nasty. Maybe mine isn’t fresh... the hops don’t perk my cheeks at all =p. Good beer... just a few minor flaws.

Spicy resin sweetness, has a slight cinnamon note. Deep orange amber, slight haze, medium long-lasting head. Caramel sweetness, solid bitterness, aroma comes through nicely. Full body, smooth long finish, with the alcohol mostly masked and showing itself at the very end. A very nice beer.

Pours with a thick, slightly off-white head. Hazy golden-orange colored body. Aroma is of beautiful floral hops, toffee, and cinnamon. Thick lacing. Nice, sweet taste that shifts to a slightly salty bitterness. Sort of a fruity flavor to it. The transition between sweetness, bitterness and alcohol isn’t as smooth as some other IIPA/DIPA’s that I have had. Creamy mouthfeel with some lively bubbles. Still feeling this a bit the next day.

On tap at Flying Saucer, San Antonio. Pour was gold/orange with ok head and lacing. The aroma was sweet caramel. The flavor had a caramel base and a lot of hops. This one had some hop complexity with citrus, pine and simcoe all in there, I think. Really hoppy...did I mention that?

A pretty nice beer...nice grapefruit and ponderosa aroma coupled with tangerine body and 1/4 tightly packed eggshell head. Flavor is obvious citrus and pine with underlying grassy, earthy, iron-like quality. Overall a solid beer and one I’d be willing to repeat.

Weak aroma. Looks great. Wonderful flavor. Smooth and crisp. This is a good IPA, but it really lacks a great aroma. I would recomend this brew, but don’t get too excited, and, oh yeah, the 9.2% alcohol will getcha.

Poured a vibrant gold and light copper color with a nice, slightly off-white head that was slightly dense and created nice webs of lacing. The initial aroma was a blast of citrus followed by thick caramel malts. As it opened up the pine and floral hops really took over. The flavor was light caramel and citrus up front that was walloped by super bitter pine hoppiness. Good mouthfeel, quite drinkable and I didn’t notice that it was 9.2% abv until after the fact.

Clear amber- yellow color with a nice looking off white head. Good smell of floral hops. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Taste starts with a nice malty sweetness which quickly succumbs to a medium hop and alcohol bitterness to finish. Probably the best beer I’ve tried from Breckenridge. Oct 2006
