Commercial Description:
Hoppy? Brother, 471 redefines hoppy. 471 is a small batch, limited edition ale that was created by our Brewmaster to separate the weak from the strong. 471 is a double IPA, that combines Pale, Munich, Caramel-30, Carapils and Torrified Wheat malts, with Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Fuggles hops. It has a big sweet mouthfeel, followed by more hoppiness than you've ever had at one time. Enjoy. (Available at Breckenridge Pubs and Restaurants and bottled as 471 Small Batch Double Hopped IPA.)

Pours mostly clear orange with nice creamy white head. Scent is mostly hops and citrus with a hint of pine. Taste is very sweet, initially hoppy, but the citrus grapefruit flavor dominates the finish. Very smooth for the considerable alcohol content, a solid beer, but a little too much on the citrus side and not enough of the more floral hoppy punch I look for in a DIPA.

12/27/2007: Breckenridge 471 Small Batch Double Hopped IPA pours a murky deep gold to amber resin color with a thin, but lasting off-white crown. The aroma is loaded with citrus and a substaintial amount of deep, rich toffee maltiness along with some brown sugar. Citrus hops and the deep toffee maltiness carry through into the flavor and are punctuated by alcohol and some earthy/herbal hop bitterness. In addition, the hop profile includes a bit of pine and resin. The bitterness is only moderate, but seems to grow slightly after each sip. The alcohol is actually pretty well hidden considering the hefty content! The palate is smooth and the body of the beer is medium to medium-full body. This is a pretty big beer that almost drinks like a "regular" IPA.

12 fl. oz. silkscreend bottle (9.2% Alc. by Vol.) from ross. Thanks buddy! Rating #430 for this beer...

Big Bomber. I’m in Houston right now and picked one of these up as I had never seen it back home (So Cal). It was a nice pleasing aroma and the hops tasted well balanced. Alot of good citrus flavor. No one in my wifes family could appreciate this at all and so I enjoyed the bomber to myself and slept soundly:))

12 oz bottle. Pours cloudy copper with a 1 cm off white head, mostly diminishing. Aroma is sweet, floral hops. Initial flavor is sweet malts, then bitter hops and citrus. Bitter aftertaste is lasting. Moderate carbonation, medium body, moderate lacing, alcohol noted as it warms. I really enjoy this DIPA and will continue to buy it in the future.

Pours a very clear copper color. No head at all. Aroma is nothing but sweet smelling. Taste is like sweet Belgian with only a hint of hop bitterness. I get no hop flavor or aroma at all. Their marketing hype makes you thiink this thing is a hop bomb. It’s horrible. A double imperial???? SN Pale Ale is more hoppy than this thing.

OK ... after their Avalanche I was expecting swill. This is better. Hoppy nose. Looks dead in the glass. Clear gold, almost no head. Taste is hot and sweet, first thought is a Barley Wine, and then the serious hops catch up. Moderately bitter finish. I like the way the the Fuggles interacts with the US hops; I always do. But with this much alcohol they owe me a better beer; I took off bonus points, just as I add them for combining great taste in a session beer.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Huntersville, NC. Pours a nice darker amber color with a small head. Aroma is very nice with some malts and pine tones. Tastes bitter, but hoppy and a nice clean finish. A good beer, but a little tweaking, but be a great beer.

12 oz bottle. Bought a sixer based on RateBeer reviews. (Gotta love Internet access via Blackberry!) <P>Pours a medium amber, about the same color as the bottle containing it. Almost brilliantly clear, had a thin head and white ring around the glass with pretty lacing throughout. Smelled some piney resin but not overwhelming, with a tiny bit of malty aroma. Taste was very pleasantly bitter, somewhat sweet, with nice hop flavor (citrusy grapefruit and orange). I don’t taste the Fuggles at all. Malts are there but subtle. I especially like the fact that the beer isn’t overdosed with sweet malts, etc. It’s well balanced. Overall, a very nice double IPA that I would certainly enjoy again!
