I don’t know about redefining hoppy as the literature purports, but it’s certainly got some hops in it. But it’s well balanced with a nice smooth follow through. At 9.2%, the alcohol is surprisingly absent, which I give them extra credit for.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Pours an orange golden color with a thin white head. Taste of citrussy hops with a good amount of bitterness. Would not realize it was a 9%er. Would definitely have this IIPA again chemicalcraig (6), Eugene/Seattle, Washington, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 15, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Denver brewpub. Pours clear orange with amber highlights. Aroma: Heavy orangey citrus, biscuity malts, low esters. Flavor: Biscuit, low caramel, moderate American hop flavor and bitterness. Could be higher for an IIPA. Slight alcohol warmth complements bitterness very well. Mouth: moderately high mouthfeel. I like my IIPA’s a bit thinner, but the hides the 9%. Overall: This a really good non-west-coast double IPA. Would definitely buy again if I had access to it. Would like a little bit more hops on the bittering and aroma side, but otherwise excellent. phaleslu (576), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 12, 2009 22 oz. bottle from Keller’s IGA. Pours a cloudy dark orange color with some visible sediments and a big off-white head. Aroma of orange citrus, caramel, alcohol, hops, tea leaves, and malts- basic for the style, but nice. Flavor follows suit well- sweet caramel malts, hops, grapefruit and orange citrus, tea, and some warming alcohol. More sweet than bitter. Alcohol is well hidden. Medium bodied, with a sweet, malty mouthfeel that doesn’t have the bite of some bitter double IPAs. Very nice. JohnnyZ (81), USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Bright orange, brilliant clarity with smooth white head. Nose is smooth pine resin, grass, and light citrus. Flavor is light sweet hops and bready malts throughout, finishes on the sweeter side. Medium body, chewy texture, light carbonation. A nice, light, hoppy IPA with a sweet emphasis, very easy drinking with only hints of alcohol warmth.
