raindog (525), Evansville, Indiana, USA Nov 3, 2005 Bottle tastes about 6 or 7 months old. Hazy, light amber, beer. Big,fluffy, head leaves lace all over the glass. Aroma is more malty(caramel, bread, old toast),with underlying alcohol, and pine, grassy hops. Flavor, unlike aroma, still tastes of hops, but a huge, malt, base is present, and really dominating at this point. Mouth is all malt(caramel, bread),with just a little bitterness. Finish is loaded with pine, and citrus and has a little alcohol, burn. I imagine fresh this was a hop bomb, which usually,I would prefer it that way,but not in this case.
Dmalone102 (114), Denver, Colorado, USA Nov 30, 2008 It was $12 for a 6-pack, but well worth it! The 471 IPA is exactly what I want out of a double IPA. Beautiful copper color with great clarity and a good head. The aroma is bright and hoppy, kind of spicy. The taste is very balanced, with lots of hops up front to give it a great flavor. You can hardly tell that it’s 9.2% abv, which makes it a dangerous beer. 00cobraR (1000), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Nov 21, 2008 Draft. A nice IIPA. pours out a deep coppery color with a small tan head. aroma was floral and hoppy. flavor was crisp and hoppy with a grassy resin finish. overall a great beer. I certainly enjoyed this one puggy211 (369), cordova, Tennessee, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours syrupy amber with a medium off white head that laces well. Nose is strong floral and grapefruit hops. Flavor has initial sweet malty notes that trend later towards nicely bitter, mostly citrus hops. Finish is pine hops and nicely alcoholic. Very good,Awsome! wheelz843 (120), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Nov 18, 2008 bottle. overpowering aroma of grapefruit and lemon. pours a dark gold color with a thick tan head. very bitter grapefruit flavor with a metallic afterraste. dm9831 (706), Monee, USA Nov 17, 2008 clear amber color, medium white head, nice lacing, an attractive beer. minor citrus aroma. the citric hop bitterness is more apparent in the flavor, with caramel and floral notes. medium bodied, nicely bitter finish that lingers. a respectable entry in my favorite style of beer. my notes say that t his beer should be ’’in the lower 15 percentile of my ratings’’. i have no idea what that means.
