Average looking brown ale. Thin cocoa colored head. Aroma is buttery, roasted nuts. A little thin bodied, even for a brown ale. Not too impressed with this...I’d choose Bells Best Brown or Rogue Hazelnut over this one. Fairly simple and one dimensional. Middle of the road given the style. The one positive here is there is a nice warming feeling without the alcohol bite.

Medium brown-mahogany no head. Buttery nuttiness in aroma, faint chocolate. Flavor is all chocolate and toasted nuts, through and through. Residuel sweetness. Only a brown, but enjoyable, if your in the mood for huge malt.

Dark, but not quite solid, brown. Medium light brown head. Lots of roasted malt and a bit of brown sugar in the aroma. Very sweet malt taste with some chocolate, roasted malts and some hops on the finish. An overall very nice sweetness...I really enjoy this beer. For a brown, done very well and packs a good amount of taste in while still leaving it extremely drinkable for 7.5%.

Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. The aroma is loaded with roasted nuttiness alond with some light chocolate. The beer pours a transparent reddish-brown with a minimal off-white ring for a head. The flavor starts with moderate nuttiness with some faint burnt flavors. There are hints of sweet chocolate throughout. There’s minimal bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is a tad flat and thin. A decent Brown Ale. 6-3-7-3-14 (3.3)

Re-Rate: I figured I’d re-rate this since I bought it thinking I hadn’t tried it before. After the first sip, I’m figuring the beer has improved in three years or I have a fresher bottle. The aroma is a nice combination of roasted nuts and chocolate. There’s a slight hint of caramel in there too. It pours a transparent mahogany, with a one inch head that fades to a thin film after a minute or so. The flavor starts with some roasted nuttiness and some light caramel. The chocolate is much more pronounced than my previous rating and the sweetness of the chocolate really becomes more pronounced in the finish. It leaves a pleasant chocolate and roasted nut aftertaste. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and soft mouthfeel. A 3.3 beer usually means the beer is okay, but I wouldn’t purchase again unless it’s on tap and I’m strapped for choices. However, having purchased this thinking I’d never had it before, I can’t say I regret it. Certainly no world beater, but pretty tasty and a "session" beer that I wouldn’t mind seeing in 6-packs. I’m using "session beer" rather loosely as it is 7.5% ABV, but it feels/tastes like a session beer.

The 22 ounce bottle poured a clear dark garnet colored beverage with an off-white, modest sized, rocky head that was mostly diminishing but left some lacing on the glass. The aroma was complex but mostly malty with a moderate presence of molasses straw and mild coffee. There were also notes of dark dried fruits - raisin and date - with a hint of brown sugar. The body was medium full with a nice soft carbonation and a smooth, creamy texture. The flavor started off moderately sweet with the taste of molasses and coffee. That sweetness lasted throughout the medium-long finish and was joined by a hint of smoke and dried fruits.

Dark brown color with reddish hues; clear. Tan colored head that leaves a lasting crown. Aroma is caramel, light roast, and some alcohol notes. Flavor is caramel, slightly nutty, and just a hint of milk chocolate. Alcohol is quite detectable but not offensive in any way. Body is medium to light, but smooth. Overall I think this is a nice beer for a really good price. 22 oz bottle, $2.99 from the Pour House Bottle Shop.

22oz bottle. Poured a dark reddish / brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of nuts, chocolate, and light roast. Tastes of lighter nuts, chocolate, toasted malts and caramel. Not bad for a Brown Ale.
