Had this beer on 12/06/2004. Aroma is a nice roasted malt scent. Color is a deep brown amber with good carbonation and thin head. Taste is mild and roasted. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a crisp feel. Finish then comes on with a mellow roasted malt flavor that is backed by a mild bitterness. It fits the fall season well.

Sweet caramel aroma, almost opaque mahogany color, minimal head and lacing, body a little on the thin side, sublte rich flavor (maybe a tad too subtle) of caramel malt with a hint of molasses and enough hops to keep things balanced. Intriguing brew. If I didn’t know any better (and maybe I don’t), I’d say it was brewed to spark discussion amoung beer enthusiasts. The label on the 12 ounce bottle (from The Party Source) suggests drinking it "after rakin’ ", and it certainly would be a welcome warmer after yardwork on a cool fall afternoon.

On tap at Capone’s... Appears a dark brown with crimson edges when held to the light. The small, tan head slowly fades out. Scattered bits of lacing are left around the glass. Smell is caramel, roasted nuts, toffee, mild cocoa, and a touch of graininess. Taste echoes the aromas with more of a citrusy, floral flavor coming through with a fair share of hopping. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, semi-sweet of toffee, along with a nutty, grainy, mildly bitter finish.

Poured a dark amber color with a medium light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of nuts, caramel, chocolate malts, and faint smoke. Taste was sweet caramel, a bit of cocoa, nuts, citrus, and a faint bitterness in the finish.

Draught: Aroma of blueberries, smoke, and citrus hops. Poured dark dark brown in color with a small tan head that diminished over time. Fair lacing. Flavor was lightly sweet. Tastes of bubble gum, soy sauce, dark malts, smoke, and blueberries. Medium body. Dry texture. Soft carbonation. Dry, salty finish. Overall, an amalgamation of flavors. Very odd beer.

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear dark brown color with some orange coming through. Head was light tan. Not much aroma other than a bit of molasses and some dried leaves, both of which came out only after the beer warmed a while. Slightly sweet on the tongue. Similar to the nose, the flavor was somewhat bland with only a bit of brown sugar mixed with a citrusy note. I’m not a fan of this beer.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours dark brown with minimal khaki head. Aroma is scotchy malty, hoppy, figgy, with mild chocolate and nutty notes. The flavor is scotch malty, hoppy, with some chocolate syrup and nut hints, in addition to a smattering of rauchy flavor. Very unique and enjoyable.
