Dark brown with a tan head. The aroma presents chocolate, roast, and some smoke. Smokey flavor as well. Herbal hops. Full body. Smooth finish. Not sure why they think this is an old ale.

Sour initial rotting fruit aroma. Surprizingly dark, I was expecting a marzen lightness. That aroma clears to something more like fresh slag once poured into the glass. Very nice initial unique flavor. Rather smooth and well behaved. At times it is on the verge of repulsiveness but it never gets there. Just enough to keep the curiousity up and the taste buds wondering. Roasted wet wood and nut flavors. Nothing else I remember tastes like this. Quite an experience. No hop bitterness can be detected and that is refreshing. Again, this unique extinguished campfire experience is really something. I don’t know if this is a repeatable beer but it is something that every rater should try at least once. Nice and different, rather enjoyable at times. The flavor is sippable and keeps you sipping. After a while there an ever so slight bitterness that builds on the back of the throat but it is well controlled. The bitterness hangs for a while at the end of the session. Must be the effect of the old wet campfire coals.

Attractively dark. Roasty, toasty malts, with a hint of grape. Alcohol gives a little kick to the flavor, not so much as sting or effervescence. With the caramel/nut dimensions it could be thought of as a rich brown ale, but it has too much dark fruit for that. Overall rather dry, a very lightly bitter finish. Generally smooth but somewhat undignified palate. Just a hint of sourness. Generally fine, not out of the ordinary.

Poured from a bottle to a dark brown with medium tan head that lingered well and left okay lacing. Even though I had this Octoberfest beer in March, it was still fresh. Aroma was roasted mnuts and coffee, with a hint of malty swetness. Body was thick and flavor more of the nutty-coffee-toffee line. Alcohol crept in very quietly, but added a nice touch to the flavor at mid-glass. Finish was not overwhelming, but somehwat smooth and warming. A good Autumn beer.

Poured from a 12-oz. bottle. Huge carbonated head, rapidly shrinking, bubbles forming along outside of glass. Dark but thin body. Aroma nearly undetectable. Strong chocolate and caramel flavor. Dry and fizzy aftertaste. By the time you get to the bottom half of the glass it has growncompletely flat, like many american domestics on which they seem to have modeled this brew. An obvious and redundant autumn beer. Not really bad.

The body’s a deep mahogany and the head’s a fizzy tan. Minimal lacing. It smells like dark, chocolatey caramel although somehow not too sweet. The carbonation cuts that sweetness with the help of a mild nutty, earthy bitterness. Sticky finish. Not bad.

Pours a very dark brown with a good head. The aroma rises with an instant mix of American hops and dark caramel and bread crust malts followed by a bit of tootsie roll.
