Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with minimal head. Sweet aroma with coffee notes. Nice body, thick and substantial. An interesting beer - heavy in alcohol but not bitter or overwhelming; sweet and rich but not cloying. Very enjoyable!

Got a six pack of 12oz bottles. The beer porus a dark brown body with a copper color head. The smell is a toasted malt. It give you a very carbonated feel in you mouth. The finish is slightly dry but smooth.

Pours with a frothy head, very very dark crimson. Light nutty, malty aroma. Taste has a strong dose of caramel, toasted malts, and a hint of chocolate. Light spiciness, hops. Slight oxidation detracts. Body is light and watery. I wouldn’t call this an old ale, more of a glorified brown in my opinion.

Very dark brown with red highlights, and a tan, averaged-sized head and decent longevity and nice lacing. Nose is lager-like but with chocolate, light roasty and toasty notes, and almonds. Flavor is fair, chocolate, almonds, very light roast and toast, and maybe acidic. Bitterness of hops is subdued and not balancing. Palate is medium to light, soft to lively, and somewhat watery. Not bad in any sense, but not a great tasting beer. Much better old ales available in CO.

Dark brown color over-sells a very bland brew. No hop flavor, and only a touch of roasted malt.

From a 12 oz. bottle with an unnotched freshness date along the left side of the label. Poured a dark coffee brown with a small foamy pale head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing. Aromas of nutty toasted grain, a subtle chocolate mingled with plums, a touch of molasses sweetness, and whiffs of alcohol. Medium carbonation and a crisp, dryish, smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel. Tastes of toasted nuts and grain, powdered chocolate, a light plum and ripe raisin fruitiness, a soft herbal and spice hop bitterness, the alcohol has a mild warming presence in the palate, and a dryish estery and malty finish, a little coffee bitterness lingering in the palate. Not a bad old ale, not a great one, but very drinkable on this cold, rainy fall day.

This beer was so mellow, I’m surprised I noticed it! Anyway, it pours a dark translucent brown, with a cloudy white small head. This reminded me of a beer version of this black russian rye bread I get at central market except in a beer. That rye flavor was good, but there wasn’t much else going on. Fairly light mouthfeel, light finish, no hops, just rye. And even that flavor was medium at its strongest. I imagine this tastes like water when you wash down dark rye bread with it.

Pour is a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is faint but there is some roasted malts giving off a chocolate aroma. Flavor is a bit better. Some chocolate and toffee with a nutty and vanilla aftertaste. Pretty decent.
