This beer was so mellow, I’m surprised I noticed it! Anyway, it pours a dark translucent brown, with a cloudy white small head. This reminded me of a beer version of this black russian rye bread I get at central market except in a beer. That rye flavor was good, but there wasn’t much else going on. Fairly light mouthfeel, light finish, no hops, just rye. And even that flavor was medium at its strongest. I imagine this tastes like water when you wash down dark rye bread with it.

Pour is a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is faint but there is some roasted malts giving off a chocolate aroma. Flavor is a bit better. Some chocolate and toffee with a nutty and vanilla aftertaste. Pretty decent.

On tap at Breckenridge Pub 9/28/06. Dark amber color, clear, almost no head. Aroma is light maltiness. Flavor - good maltiness, slight caramel. Med-light body. Hops balance, but in the background. Overall, a decent oktoberfest--a little dark and lacking head, but flavor is pretty close. Good drinking beer.

Pour deep brown with an attactive soapy brown head. Aroma is very light for such a dark beer - all I can pick up is a little bit of roasted malt. Medium body with some fairly soft carbonation. Starts off with some roasted malt, light chocolate, vanilla and some nutty flavors. The finish has some spicy hops and light chocolate mixing with the orasty nutty flavors. Much better than most that comes from this brewery.

12oz bottle. Probably near one year old. Pours brown with a reddish tint. Mine got a very small head in my NB snifter. Aroma is malt, caramel, mild roast, and earthy. Flavor is malty, nutty, roasty, and cream-like, with some earthy and apicy hop flavor. The beer is mildly bitter at the end, just enough to keep if from being cloying. Big bodied. Didn’t realise this was 6.7%, but it does have a big body and a nice flavor. Enjoyable.

Autumnal Brown/Oranged Coloring with White Head. Sweet Tart Caramel Malt Aroma. Caramel Malts with a Light Toasted Expression. Medium Mouthfeel. Arguably One of the Better Brews I’ve Tried From This Brewery. Pretty Light For an Alt. I Would Have Bought Amber Styel Better

This tastes more like a brown ale than any alt I’ve had. Unfortunately I hate brown ale. This is particularly bad for a brown ale, an horrible for an alt. It’s exceedingly tart, and lacking in malt and hops. Either would make quite an improvement. This stuff is so tart it smells like vinegar. I mean it really does.

Butterscotch figures prominently in the mildly nutty malt forward aroma. Clear, dark brown body with low tan head that recedes to ring. Liquorice, roasted, dark malts are strong in the sweet, lightly fruity flavour with herbal hop character and moderate bitterness. Medium body with fairly lively carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub.
