Pours with a large deep dark brown body and a fluffy largish off-white head. Aroma of malts, cinnamon, bread, honey oats, and cardboard. Taste is yeasty, then astringent, then roasty, with a wierd tangy caramel bitterness. Fullish mouthfeel, somewhat creamy, lightish bubbles. I think I will stick to 471 beers from now on when I go Breckenridge. Strykzone (1478), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 19, 2008 Looks like a cola and is very dark brown with red tints and a small tan head. A big and pleasant aroma greets the nose with caramel, roasted nuts, dark fruit, and some chocolate. Flavors of molasses, chocolate, funk, tart hops, and coffee. Light effervescence. Feel is prickly and smooth. nearbeer (1834), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 18, 2008 12 oz. Nearly opaque black with a small head that tries. Aroma is coffee, cocoa, toasted nut and maybe some molasses. Flavors of coffee, oats, dark-roasted nuts, and light caramel-sour apple. Medium-heavy body is watery, a little frothy and roasty-dry. I usually like roast malt heavy beers, but this one is too watery-fizzy and really has no punch to it. Tastes like a homebrew I messed up on once trying to make an Old Engine Oil clone. esjaygee (1519), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Sep 18, 2008 Brown with a thin white head. Aroma of sweet malt, nuts, roasted malt and mild chocolate. Taste of sweet and roasted malt, toffee and mild fruit. Sweet and overly sticky, somewhat of a Vienna or Oktoberfest feel to it. ilovedarkbeer (1365), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 16, 2008 Pours a dark black brown color with some reddish highlights and almost no head (what I can see is light brown). Nose is roasted, malty, sweet, and nutty. Mouthfeel is soft yet supple. Taste is roasted and nutty but kind of blah and unsatisfying. Nothing sticks out to me. I don’t really know what to say. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 14, 2008 Roasty aroma of dark malty hops, some nut aromas as well. The color is very dark, almost mahogany - dark brown. It’s head is adequate. It’s flavor is full and rather complex, with a dark maltyness and nut flavors, combined with some hops, but also some alchohol flavor as well. It’s smooth, not my favorite, but very good. Pours a nice looking deep brown with ruby hue’s, minimal off-white head. Aroma has slight chocolate, slight dark fruit, a nice small hoppy spice. Flavor has a nice maltiness, a little chocolate, a little vanilla, some spicy hop, hints of alcohol. Palate is medium mouthfeel, high carbonation. Overall, it is incredibly balanced but yet with some complexity, easy to drink as well.....also, really does have a nice warming sensation.....I enjoyed this.....
