Commercial Description:
Subtlety. That's what makes our Avalanche amber ale such a treat. We blend pale and caramel malts -- and just a kiss of bittering hops -- to create a refreshing-but-flavorful, any-time beer. Aromas of pale grains, a semi-sweet middle and a clean-as-Colorado-snow finish make this our best-selling beer.

12oz bottle. Pours clear amber. Head is minimal and off white. Smells of malt, slightly roasted, hay, and some spice. Taste is earthy, nutty, malty, and a little caramely. Pretty thin texture. Not very impressed.

"Subtlety"...so says the commercial description. To my mind (and palate), that translates as "weak in flavor...kind of watery". And sadly so. Ambers can make such wonderful sessions beers, and a good one has such nice, caramely malt flavors. They’re still here...just watered down.

(Bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a small beige head. Aroma of nuts, cocoa, roasted malt, grain, and subtle pumpkin spice. Flavor of caramel, roasted malt, and nuts.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear, brown body with a thin, creamy white head. Faint aroma of caramels and light hops. Maybe a little sweet fruit hint, but really nothing going on in the nose. Flavor is pretty similar with maybe a bit more nut taste to it. Palate is soft and watery. Overall, not a very exciting beer. Blah.

The flavor had caramel and fruity notes at the core, again with leafy accents around.. finished dry with more of the same. Light-medium bodied with an OK feel, but was rather empty across the middle.. very clean.

bottle in mix 12 pack. Pours amber with off white head. Aroma is grainy, some pine hops. Taste is malty, light touch of nuts, light caramel with possible cocoa and a bitter chocolaty finish. A lot better than what the overall rating shows. Have yet to have anything by Breckenridhe that disappoints me.

Bomber. Poured medium amber with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up toasted caramel and nutty notes with crisp floral and leafy accents.. soft overall and nicely balanced. The flavor had caramel and fruity notes at the core, again with leafy accents around.. finished dry with more of the same. Light-medium bodied with an OK feel, but was rather empty across the middle.. very clean.

Bottle. Pours an amber color with a little head. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is nuts, caramel, citrus, and earthy. Flavor is malts and other sweet flavors. Very easy and drinkable. An ok beer
