| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 9, 2007 I thought this to be a pretty mediocre oatmeal/sweet stout compared to others I’ve had recently. It had a fair amount of sweet roasty character with some decent vanilla notes, but it also had a vegetable-like (mercaptan?) smell.
It poured an opaque black with a fairly light body (as in not viscous). Aroma had a good amount of roastiness and vanilla in it. Flavor was vanilla, roasty, and had more hops than I would’ve expected (all pluses). However, there was also a compost/vegetable element in the flavor that I didn’t care for. As it warmed, I also got some smokey/rauchbier type flavors which were not unpleasant. Mouthfeel was not thick, but was not inappropriate.
There are just so many better oatmeal stouts out there. Still, I kind of enjoyed it, and I’d weakly recommend. BlackOut (43), East End, England
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 8, 2007 This one’s a bit too bitter for my taste, bought it just to try. For those who like bitter stouts its not bad beer at all, its rich in flavour, hints of coffee and chocolate but I hopefully wont be having it again. sirpsycho (356), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 7, 2007 Bottle. Pours a very dark black / brown. Nice looking, thick beige head. Aroma is slight roast coffee, maybe a touch of chocolate. Flavor is burnt coffee, touch of chocolate. Bitter to a point that I didn’t want to finish the bottle, ended up dumping the last 40% of the bottle. nearbeer (1887), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
