Black body with tan head and some lacing left on glass. Flavor was mostly all roasted coffee and left a coffee aftertaste on palate. Easy drinkable stout without the sweetness more dy than anything else. Good beer. BDR (2160), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

12 oz brown bottle for $1.50 from Vintage Estates. Very little aroma, probably due to my slightly stuffy nose. The pour is exceptionally black and dark. Has an orangey tinge around the edges. Taste is a bit bitter, it has that burned feeling on the back of your throat. Except for the bitterness, kinda smooth. Cannot taste much if any chocolate in there and the black coffee roastiness is quite overwhelming. Should this be a mild impy stout? Comes across like one. I think Weyerbacher’s Old Heathen is less oppressive than this. Does not live up to the sweet stout impression that I got from Mackeson’s xxx. However, much better than Bell’s Cherry Stout.

Taste is roasted bitter espresso, chocolate, smoke. Nice bitter hop bite in the finish, with a little fruitiness. Medium to heavy body, a little chalky. stison42 (318), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 19, 2007 If you like heavily roasted coffee and almonds which ferment in cigarette ashes, this one is for you. The mouthfeel isn’t too bad, its thicker than the other Breck beers. I do enjoy certain aspects of the aftertaste such as some bitter hops which managed to make their way into this almost one dimensional mix. The oatmeal flavors are present in the aroma and dominate the flavor. donovan1983 (52), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 19, 2007 Bottle. Part of a Breckenridge ale variety pack. Pours nearly black with a small tan head that disappears very quickly. Aroma of roast malt, coffee, and chocolate. Flavour is rather sweet and mainly of dark chocolate and roast malt with a little coffee. Finish is slightly bitter with a more prominent coffee flavour, and somewhat on the dry side. It has a rather thin mouthfeel. I’m not really a stout fan, and prefer a drier brew like Guinness if I have a stout, but this is enjoyable and I certainly will enjoy the other 2 bottles I have left. grandet (481), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA
