It was black with a light cream colored head, looked like a Guinness. Smells were slight roasted malts. The taste was roasted oats and malts. Nice beer, easy to drink, and went well with the rack of ribs. It smells

Flavor is roasty chocolate, medium sweetness, with some coffee. The roast comes across a bit burnt and ashy and overpowers the other flavors a bit. Alright, but not great. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Aug 23, 2009 I enjoyed this one thoroughly. Poured from bottle into pint glass after letting it warm up a tad.
Appearance was none more black with a beautiful dark creme colored two finger head that disappeared quickly and left no sign of lacing.
Smell is of oats, coffee, something roasting.
Taste is very good and somewhat complex for this style. Not the oatmeal led meal in a bottle that I had expected. If the taste could be described in a word, that word would be dark.
Mouthfeel was pretty heavy and creamy but not enough to make the beer undrinkable. Not much sign of carbonation. Loved the coating feeling this one had going down. Would definitely drink again. DJMonarch (6845), Northwich, Cheshire, England

A bark black color body with a thin soapy tan head , short lasting , with some spotty lacing left behind . Aroma is lightly sweet , with some nice roasty coffee and coco notes . Flavor is very roasty , lots of coffee , and bitter sweet chocolate , most of the mild bitterness here seems to come from the coffee , with just a light amount of sweetness , dry toasty finish .Full body with a smooth creamy mouthfeel , quite sessionable . | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2009 On Tap at Shallo’s. Pours dark black, with minimal quickly fading head. Nose is smooth, sweet oats and sugary chocolate. Taste is roasted oats, dark chocolate and smooth dark malt. Very good for the style, nothing too spectacular. Worth trying, if you see it. bblack99 (205), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 1, 2009 Second beer tasted of Oatmeal Stout Saturday Night (following Goose Island, followed by Southern Tier).
Translucent black under a perfect cap of big-bubbled, condensing milk-chocolate head. Light coffee, sweet dark chocolate, and medium-roasted malt smells fill the nose with a nice aroma. Taste matches some of the flavors, but the quiet oat aroma belays hides a surprising amount of oaty flavor. Chocolate follows with a bit of smoke, and light-roast coffee and malt take a back seat rounding out the flavor profile.
Initially very sweet, ranges through to a dry finish. Light carbonation and a nice medium body make this a very drinkable stout.
