hotstuff (2962), Indiana, USA May 7, 2008 Bottle. Small fizzy ivory hed that mostly diminished, one ring of lacing, transparent, lively, fast rising carbonation, and an orange hue. The nose was malty, caramel and some hops. Ditto for the flavor along with some sweetness and a dry finish. Mildly tingly mouthfeel and light-medium in body. Easy to drink, but not a great beer by any means and it did not leaving me wanting this one again. Indra (1762), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA May 1, 2008 12oz. bottle, thanks to natedoggkc. Sweet nose of caramel and toasty malt along with a very light touch of floral hops and dark honey. Clear medium-dark amber color with a slight, subsiding head. Flavor is similarly malty and sweet, more toasted, sugary caramel and vague hint of dried fruit on the finish, which also shows a negligible amount of bitterness. Smooth and low in effervescence on the palate, body is medium. Easy to quaff, nearly as easy to forget. ratman197 (2024), Arvada, Colorado, USA Apr 25, 2008 Bottle poured a clear amber with a lasting light amber head. Aromas of carmel, toasted malt and a hint of dark fruit. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of carmel, toasted malt, light cocoa and a hint of dark fruit with a smooth lingering malty finish. Gregis (733), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Apr 22, 2008 Updated: Apr 23, 2008Bottle courtesy of natedoggkc. Thanks for the bottle, Nate. Pours a clear, dark reddish copper with a thin, fizzy, beige head that reduces rapidly to a mall island of tiny bubbles at the surface. The nose is of cocoa and caramel with a mildly vegetal note and light, earthy hops in the background. Light-bodied with fine, tongue scrubbing carbonation and a quick, slightly astringent finish. The flavor follows the nose with a lightly roasty, cocoa and earthy hopped finish. It’s a decent brew, but if you’re looking for a solid example of the style, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. BeerBelcher (670), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 21, 2008 This is really a good-looking beer; it is too bad the beer doesn’t deliver on that good start with a pleasant drinking experience. I got a lot of mercaptan out of this beer, which tastes like compost or rotting vegetables, and that’s not what I’m looking for in a beer.
Appearance was a rich red brass color with nice head. The appearance had me primed for a good beer experience, which was sadly not to be. Aroma was a bit sour with lots of mercaptan, which I find a bit revolting. I also got some caramel malt and diacetyl in the aroma. Flavor was distinctly metallic, although I really found it difficult to get over that rotting vegetable smell. Mouthfeel was a bit thin.
I was not impressed by this beer, and I would recommend you choose something else.
I bought this bottle at 3 Cellars in Franklin, WI.
