Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Pours a nice deep ruby with brown highlights, a nice creamy 2 finger tan head. Aroma is chocolate, light roast, vanilla, sweet roasted nuts, and a touch of toffee. Flavor is pretty over the top on vanilla, theres a little roast in there, coffee, some waxy milk chocolate. Finish is awkwardly chalky and sweet with a very vanilla rum like base. Not so good, worse than I remember. Body is medium and oily

Lots and lots of vanilla. Unfortunately, not much else. It was good at first, but the more I drank the less I liked it. Needs some more dimension.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours an inky black with a thin tan head. Light aroma, of burnt malt and vanilla beans. Big taste, lots of vanilla extract, burnt malt, and hints of coffee and chocolate. Lingering sweet and spicy vanilla flavors. Decent.

I think that this beer is exactly what you think it’s going to be going into it. The only thing that I have to add to all of these ratings is that this finished like metallic butterscotch pudding.

Pint at Denver pub 10/12/2008. Slight smokiness and vanilla hints in aroma. Dark amber brown with small tan head. Nice vanilla bean flavor and roast up front. Medium body and mouthfeel. Finish is fairly dry and slightly astringent.

Breckenridge mixed pack. Pours copper with tan head. Aroma of light vanilla and chocolate. The vanilla is neither too strong nor too weak, there is enough to be noticed and create an amazing nose. Taste of vanilla with underlying touch of sweet lactose. Very smooth, light roasted malts, touch cocoa powder and chocolate. Leave this beer warm up and it becomes a great porter filled with outstanding vanilla mouthfeel.
