Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Sampled at Stimmel’d in BG, OH. Good head (for a five ounce sample) and somewhat aromatic. The first thing that jumps out at you is the vanilla, proving that they are using real vanilla beans. But otherwise the beer is weak and lacking in other disticntive flavors. The tasting host said it struck her as an alcohol flavored soda and I think I have to agree.

Small tan head with a bunch of spotty lace, teeny spotty lace. Clear, chestnut colored brew with a red glow. Nose is vanilla and vanilla with a hint of chocolate. Body is lightly medium, sorta creamy. Sweet malts, not cloying though, light roast, cocoa and vanilla of course and some faint cherry notes. Lightly sweet finish, vanilla extract like. Thanks to jake65 for the bottle!

Deep dark brown coloured body with a frothy and dense tan head. Aroma of strong vanilla, fragrant oak and malt, a bunch of coffee and even a bit of milk. Medium-bodied; Potent lactic qualities with sour milk and cream more noticeable than anything else. Roasted malt showing through with some caramel, along with a bit of nuts. Aftertaste potent and strong, but the sweetness is definitely there. Overall, a decent porter - more of a sweet stout to me, but the lactic qualities are strong as well as the vanilla. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 03-April-2008.

bottle aquired from a trade with The Captain. thanks Mark. pours almost exactly like Coca-Cola, a very deep brown with a bubbly off-white head. smell is mostly malt with a little bit of vanilla and maybe a hint of oatmeal. flavor is hard to describe , a bit of toasted malt with some vanilla and a bit of some unidentifiable chemical. finishes with a bittersweet chocolate flavor. it is decent but it is nothing to write home about.

Pours drak brown with a 1.5 inch light tan head. Smell like sweet malt and strong vanilla. Taste is kinda weird, like a good beer and a scoop of vanilla ice cream float. Finish is sugary and malt. Mouthfeel is medium. Pretty good, but not something I would probably buy again.

A very dark copper colored beer with a very thin head. The aroma has some hints of malt but is mostly vanilla. This beer really tastes very little like a porter. I would describe it more as a very sweet stout. Overall I would say this beer is just average, maybe a little better if you like your beers very sweet.

This beer pours with a thin, creamy head that dissipates. The beer is a dark color, from far away you might mistake it for a stout, but when held up to the light you can see its dark copper color. The aroma has some hints of malt, I don’t sense any hops in the aroma. The flavor is malty, with little hop character and the vanilla hints remind me of vanilla coke....kinda of in the aftertaste and a little extra sweetness. The body is medium, with a British carbonation level. I think this is a good pairing of flavors with the vanilla not overpowering. This is not a beer that I would drink three of, but it is enjoyable once in a while to have something different.
