Fairly muted nose of roasted malt, some artificial vanilla and Hershey’s mike chocolate. Roasted malt with a hint of toffee nuttyness on the palate. There’s a hint of metallic alcohol astringincy that was a tad offputting. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Very average if unforgettable porter. MattShizzle (385), Bernville, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 7, 2007 Bottle Dark maroon pour with a little white head with low retention. Aroma of vanilla and some malt. Flavor has a bit of roasted malt porter flavor, but dominated by the vanilla. Strong vanilla and roasted aftertaste. Better than I was expecting. hopslovin (180), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2007 Almost black with deep ruby edges. Off-white head quickly vanishes. Roast and vanilla on the nose. Big vanilla flavor that fills the palate. Full flavor and nice mouthfeel, but this beer is a bit thin in complexity. Not a powerhouse in this category, but this beer could be enjoyed year round. swk (5), Athens, Ohio, USA does not count | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 7, 2007 Disappointing---good color, aroma is mostly coffee and roasted malt. Flavor is a combination of roasted malt/coffee and licorice, with no perceptable vanilla. Tastes almost burnt. Braincage1 (139), Cary, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 5, 2007 Bottle. A deep ruby red makes this beer look almost black. A thin tan head tops it off. Aroma is delicious - a milky, vanilla, toffee, frappucinno combo that would be just right if it just had more presence. Flavor is decent - Im not getting the vanilla here more of just a roasted coffee malt bitterness that coats the tongue. Thats about it and doesnt leave much of an impression. alexsdad06 (1079), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium sized beige head that hangs on for a bit. The aroma is coffee, roasted malt, light chocolate, and vanilla. The flavor comes off a bit sweeter than the aroma let on. The vanilla and roasted malt take center stage with the coffee and chocolate moving more toward the finish. Medium/medium-full mouthfeel and easy to drink. I am surprised this isn’t rated higher.
