pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 10, 2007 Tap at Kahootz: Dark brown with no head. It doesn’t have many of the familiar characteristics associated with porters like the charcoal, deep roasted flavor. This was akin to having a vanilla coke. It leaves an extemely sweet, sugary flavor in your mouth. In my opinion, it isn’t robust enough to be called a porter. PGA324 (85), Savage, Minnesota, USA Feb 9, 2007 Dissapointing, expected more vaniila flavor. Another average Breckenridge. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 9, 2007 Transparent amber-chocolate in color with soda bubbles on the edges and a tan saliva galaxy oval on top. Madagascar vanilla launches out of the nose with sweet brown sugar and caramel crusted sugar grahams. Sweet cocoa wheat is comin’ atcha with a hint of lactic acid. Full flavored, boozy vanilla beans pool in a brown sugared chocolate port sauce. The Madagascar vanilla bean gets good distance as the flavor weaves through. Mocha beans surface under the sweet sugar coating. Medium to fuller bodied with remnants of Hershey bars melting in a lunchbag for both flavor and texture. A hint of café mochas and lactic cream glide with white chocolate mouse filling in the end. keoki182 (305), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA Feb 8, 2007 Enjoyed out of the bottle from Jeff’s Spirits on Main. Beautiful light vanilla nose, hints of roasted malts. First sip is kind of surprising, tastes sharp, like vanilla-infused vodka. I didn’t like my first sip at all. Once the beer warmed slightly, the vanilla flavor merged much more gracefully with the roasted malt flavor (burnt and smoky). 10 minutes in, I found this to be a very good albeit nontraditional porter from Breckenridge. Good stuff. BustedFlat (552), Edina, Minnesota, USA Feb 7, 2007 Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass, black with a thin tan head. The color is deep amber when held up to a light. Smell is sweet with a strong dose of vanilla, of course, and a hint of coffee. The taste -- remember when you were a kid and when mom was baking she let you smell the vanilla extract bottle and it was great and later you snuck into the cupboard and tried drinking some. Well, actually it’s not quite that bad. There is a strong taste of vanillla up front as one would expect, with hints of coffee and chocolate. Very sweet to start and then it finishes with a just a touch of bitterness. Probably worth a try if you’re a vanilla fan and definitely worth it if you liked the vanilla extract as a kid.
MacDaddyOJake (274), Richmond, Virginia, USA Feb 6, 2007 Slight head cold, but I tried this one anyways. Even though I couldnt breath very well, all I got was vanilla! Tons of vanilla flavor and then the roasted qualities. My friends all agreed, so my sense of taste could not have been far off. A tad thin for a winter beer.... needs some more malt to beef up the body and alcohol percentage. Really just an average porter with an unaverage ingredient. kkearn (993), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 3, 2007 12oz bottle. Deep Brown, with a thin white head. Aroma is weaker than i expected; vanilla is most prominant, with notes of cocoa and roasted malt. Tasty up front; the vanilla balance out the roasted malt nicely. However, i found the finish a bit sour and unpleasant. Good potential; I’d try it again. StLsportsfan (35), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Jan 31, 2007 It should be a vanilla, vanilla porter. Some roasted malt in the nose when the vanilla isn’t there (hardly ever).
Unfortunatly it is too sweet...a shame because the porter is decent.
