Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Black pour with a tan head. I couldn’t detect much vanilla in the aroma or flavor. Nice chocolate and caramel flavor but nothing over the top. A decent porter.

12 ounce bottle poured in glass a reddish/brown. It has a sweet flavor which was plesantly drinkable but it wasn’t quite what I had expected. An after dinner beer at most.

Bottle, 6 fl. oz. Pours a dark brown/reddish beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is weak vanilla. The flavor is strong vanilla, way too much, and it leaves a sticky vanillataste in the palate. Overall this beer has way too much vanilla.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cereal and mild coffee, light hop and yeast notes of herbs and earth, with cola, vanilla and bourbon without the alcohol. Head is small, frothy, light brown with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear dark brown with a red tint. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start and finishes lightly sweet. Palate is medium, oily and has a soft carbonation. I’m not used to having vanilla in my beer, but this fit this Porter very well.

Pours a dark brown color with a medium brown head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, and vanilla. Tastes of malts, chocolate, roasted nuts, vanilla, some coffee and maple notes. Very nice overall.

Bottle from Papago. Pours a mild coffee color with a trim tan head. Certainly doesn’t look like a porter. Smells of barley, malt, and raw vanilla beans. Tastes the same with an added note of baker’s cocoa. Very dry. Some cream or a bit of sweetness would go a long way in balancing this out.

Let me first say that when I first had this beer, I absolutely hated it. The vanilla was so dominant in it that it was sickening. So as a "present" I dropped the last three I couldn’t pawn off in a buddy’s fridge. That was about a year ago. Tonight for the heck of it, I cracked the lid on his last one. Boy am I glad I did. I was rewarded with one of the better beers I’ve had in awhile. So here we go... 12 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with small ruby highlights and a small, light tan head. The nose is heavy with chocolate but also a slightly vegetative smell. Medium carbonation and a rich mouthfeel. The palate was quite enjoyable with the immediate taste of milk chocolate, light vanilla notes, and some latte thrown in. Rich and delicious! As the beer warmed, stronger coffee notes emerged, but not enough to overpower the milk chocolate taste. It had a medium finish with lingering chocolate notes. Quite nice! I wouldn’t recommend it while young, but you will be rewarded if you let one of these sit around in the fridge for a few months!

The aroma is sweet and has vanilla, coffee, and heavily toasted malt. But it also has paper and metal. The appearance is brown with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma with a little bitterness up front and a sweet finish. The palate is smooth. It’s partakeable for sure but not outstanding.
