Big 16 oz glass for only $4. The look of this beer is very dark brown almost black with an orange tinge. Head is tan and about an eighth inch thick. Head fades to froth after a few minutes. Roasty sort of smell with hints of burned wood. Beery smelling with vanilla in there too. First taste is not like any porter I am familiar with, more vanilla than porter. Almost like vanilla extract charcoal flavored uncooked cookie dough or french toast mix. Has a bitter flavor and viscosity that borders on imp stout. The flavor hangs for a moment or two after each gulp. Does have good tingly carbonation that is very desirable in such a chewy brew. This may be a little on the offensive side for a porter. Not as well behaved as I would have liked for a porter. A little more coarse than your typical smooth porter than I care for. Tho the finish is medium bitter, it only lingers for a short time after you are finished drinking. FROTHINGSLOSH (2036), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA

The aroma was tangy, roasty, malty and had a moderate vanilla element. The flavor was lightly bitter, roasty and had a moderately strong vanilla (somewhat artificial) flavor and a light floral hop presence. Nice. My wife like this one much better than I did though. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

Tastes and smells very similar. Rich subtle vanilla taste. Fairly easy to drink for quite a dark beer. Decent, I thought, but I haven’t had but a couple other porters. sebletitje (1986), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours copper with tan head.
Aroma of light vanilla and chocolate.
The vanilla is neither too strong nor too weak, there is enough to be noticed and create an amazing nose.
Taste of vanilla with underlying touch of sweet lactose.
Very smooth, light roasted malts, touch cocoa powder and chocolate.
Leave this beer warm up and it becomes a great porter filled with outstanding vanilla mouthfeel. beerbill (1973), Laurel, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 8, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep clear reddish brown, which is more red when held againist a light. Moderate tan head that lasted until mid-glass and left a nice layer of foam after each sip. Mild but pleasant aroma of malt. Where is the vanilla? The flavor is sweet malt up front with a slight metallic flavor as well that tingles the tongue a bit. The vanilla finally emerges at the finish and lingers in the aftertaste well beyond the swallow. There is also an odd, slick mouthfeel towards the finish of this beer that I did not particullarly care for. Thin bodied. As a stand-alone porter, this beer would have been weak. It seemed more like a red ale to me. Worth a try but not worth revisiting. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA

Try again Breckenridge.
