I got some of the vanilla in the smell but not a whole lot in the taste. Some coffee and a little chocolate in the aroma and taste as well. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 10, 2006 bottle-mahogony red with a very small beige head. looks thin and light to be a porter really. big vanilla bean, char and chocolate notes emit from my glass. flavors are abundantly vanilla and taste somewhat artificial. body is very weak, lacking any real substance. very one dimensional and weak. Try again Breckenridge. scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 12, 2006 Clear dark brown, creamy light tan head. A soft nose of caramel, vanilla, mild chocolate, coffee, and toast. Flavor up front is all about French vanilla tones that are softly backed by more notes of chocolate, toast, coffee, and caramel. Medium bodied, soft smooth carbonation, vanilla-laden finish. Not nearly as bad as the average score here indicates. Best suited for breakfast time in my book... fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Nose of chocolate and lots of vanilla. Flavor was similar. Very smooth mouthfeel with more vanilla and some caramel on the final swallow. Good. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Nutty, roasted malts, cinnamon and vanilla in the aroma. Mouthfeel is genuinely creamy, well balanced. Taste is enticing, sweet, not too sweet- vanilla, hints of coffee, toffee and butterscotch. tronraner (1939), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Bottle. Pours very dark garnet with beige head and bubbles on the side of the glass. The aroma is some vanilla and faint coffee, with a bit of milk chocolate. In the flavor the vanilla is not subtle at all. Vanilla beans everywhere. There are some smooth malt flavors in there, too, a la a regular porter, but it’s mostly vanilla. This is a very drinkable beer, but I would like the vanilla toned down some.
