| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Mar 24, 2006 I am shocked by the high marks previous raters have given this abomination. The vanilla is way, WAY too strong...it overwhelms all other flavors and aromas, and just ruins the porters other attractions. I hated this so much, I almost, (ALMOST) couldn’t finish it. And the vanilla tastes artificial, as well, just to really drive the nail in the coffin lid. DrnkMcDermott (1865), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 29, 2007 Sampler at <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/frankf Liquors, Frankfort. Light vanilla nose that for once does not overwhelm the base style. Color, though, tends to the light part of the porter spectrum. The vanilla taste does outdo the porter malts for attention, though. But at least it’s pleasant and not overwhleming. Bitterness at the end seems to come more from the vanilla beans. LinusStick (1856), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 11, 2007 I’m suprised this isn’t rated higher by most. I’m not a fan of this brewer, but glad I picked this up. Aroma of coffee withjust a hint of chocolate. Pour was perfect...a dark deep brown with a 2 finger off white head that stayed for most of the beer. The taste was NOTHING like the aroma. Very sweet and full. Full on vanilla and malt with a hint of coffee/chocoalate mid gulp. Nice and creamy mouthfeel. Nothing like I’ve had from them before! Good job! thegreenrooster (1852), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 14, 2006 Pour is a dark red with a small tan head. Aroma is chcolate, coffee and yes vanilla. Flavor is vanilla, vanilla, vanilla. Better tasting vanilla than most vanilla ice cream. Finish is very silky and smooth. A very good tasting brew. I prob could not have more than one of these b/c it is very sweet but this is sure tasty. I said vanilla 6 times in this review so that should give you an idea about this brew. lithy (1850), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2009 Dark dark brown red edges, thin tan head. Aroma is light roast, nuts and vanilla. Lots of vanilla in the flavor, some roast, chocolate, strange finish with the overpowering vanilla.
