Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Bottle during my Great Lakes region brew tour. This porter is extra-dark brown, looks black, with a tan head. The aroma is slightly sour with thin hops and roasted coffee. Vanilla hits the palate big time. It’s pretty much cream soda with a beer finish. I don’t think it’s quite cloying, but it is without a question one-dimensional. The finish is slightly earthy and drying.

Bottle. Poured a light black color with a nice head, lots of legs. Aroma is overly scented with vanilla, light malt and oats. Flavor is extremely sweet with vanilla dominating the flavor, very dry.

Bottle courtesy of markwise. Pours a dark cola brown with thin white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of light vanilla, roast, ripe dark fruit, some hints of caramel and coffee. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of vanilla, caramel, ripe fresh fruit, chocolate, hints of brown sugar and honey. Generally medium body with a pleasing malty finish.

Drank this one a couple weeks ago, but never entered a rating. This was pretty much your run of the mill flavored porter. Vanilla is noticeable in the nose and flavor. Kinda thin mouthfeel. Not a huge vanilla beer fan so this was not my favorite. Next.

Bottle from Degarth, thank you. Poured black with no head. Aroma is present - vanilla, a kind of perfumy vanilla with a roasty background. Taste is like a hoppy-perfumy vanilla flavor. A bit thin for me, too watery of a feel. No substance to it.

On tap at the Ale House in Grand Junction. Pours a dark brown with a small white head. The aroma is milky chocolates. The flavor is similarly dominated by milk chocolates and a light vanilla bean. Pretty nice and easy to drink.

Bottle. Poured a deep clear black with almost no head, sans for a small layer of film on top. Nose is mild coffee, mild chocolate, mild malt and just a hint of vanilla, though you really have to search. Palate is much the same – mild everything - though the vanilla comes through nicely in the finish, especially as it warms. Nice creamy mouth feel with ok lacing. A decent “niche” porter.

From a 12 oz. long neck brown bottle with an unnotched bottled on date. Made a average appearance, poured a Coke Cola brown with an foamy off-white head that quickly settled into a thin bubbly lacing, small amount of sticking, moderate carbonation. Had a big vanilla cake-like nose with a little lemony herbalness in the background. A semi-crisp, watery smooth medium bodied mouth feel, because of taste, below average drinkability. Started off with a nice cherry vanilla taste, followed by lemony herbal bitterness that lasts through the rest of the taste and for me, completely ruins the flavor of this porter, not much porter roastiness to help balance the taste and a sour lemony and herbal finish, by the end the vanilla flavor has disappeared. I was disappointed with porter, I was hoping for better, I couldn’t recommend it.
