| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 7, 2008 Bottle pours dark brown with a small head and some lace. The aroma is sweet malt, coffee, and vanilla. The flavor is certainly highlighted by a lingering vanilla flavor, with a good dose of chocolate and coffee. The palate is a bit thin, but has a nice diminished carbonation making it more natural feeling. Overall, this is pretty good. freekyp (906), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 1, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a smallish tan head. Laces nicely as the glass empties. Aroma is tart and raisiny as is the flavor. There is a nice bit of vanilla that makes its presence known on the sides of the tongue, then recedes and lets the tart dark fruit take center stage until the final part of the swallow where it returns for a long mellow finish. A bit sour and too tart overall. If blindfolded, I may have guessed this was a somewhat turned dubbel. Missing the necessary roast to be a top rank porter. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 28, 2009 Pours a deep mahogany into the glass, with dark ruby fringed hues and a thin ring of off-white lace that diminishes quickly. The aromas are honestly a bit musty and have some sour grains in there. The flavors do have some murky chocolates, slight vanilla hues, and some cherry in there as well. This isn’t horrible, by any means, but the mouthfeel, which is a bit zesty for the style, really muddies up the flavors at work and throws all of the contingencies out of balance. It leaves me wondering what it is that I’m actually supposed to be concentrating on.
EDIT: I actually remember having this beer years and years ago at a Microbrew Festival, and this was one of my favorites of the lot. I can’t really imagine that this was what I was so hyped up about, and is actually a bit of a letdown now that I’ve rekindled my relationship with it. dkoonce (899), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2007 Bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown, with a thin tan head. Farly heavy malt aroma, with sweet vanilla aroma. Very heavy, almost syrupy. Sweet and malty, with a definite chocolate and vanilla flavors. Very smooth and rewarding. Too heavy for more than one though. Trev (895), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA

Aroma is dark roast coffee and vanilla.
Flavour continued with roast coffee and a burnt malt bitterness with a strong vanilla throughout. A little too sweet overall for extended drinking. Glad I got a single 12oz and not an entire 6 pack.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 6, 2007 Tap. Pours dark brown with a decent sized tan colored head. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malts. Flavor is vanilla, some roasty malts, little else. Palate is medium to light, on the watery side, medium carbonation, vanilla-y finish. This is so one dimentional. Vanilla tastes almost like flavoring, not good. walleye (882), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
