Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

This beer was suprisingly really good. Extremely smooth to drink and had a light vanilla and chocolate notes. KInd of a lactose sweetness hidden in the background of this one. Not that bad overall.

They say vanilla porter and they MEAN vanilla. I was surprised to see how prominent in the flavor the vanilla was, here. Beer pours with a fairly typical porter color and a perhaps-a-bit-too-small head. Nose is mildly chocolate and roast. But the flavor is a surprise. I’m not quite sure what to think of it. At first it’s a bit overpowering, and the vanilla fades some as warming allows for the natural roastiness to come out a bit more, but the vanilla is pleasant, for the most part. The main concern is that it might be too much over multiple (a sixer) pours, and I can’t imagine wanting such a beer too often.

This beer looks pretty good. Has a solid off-white head, with a good looking black color. The head doesn’t fade away fast, which is good. The flavor is not what I expected. Everything is very subtle. I smell the vanilla a lot, but I wish I could say that for the taste. The vanilla is not as crisp as I thought it would be. I was expecting more of an obvious vanilla flavor, but that is not the case. The vanilla and the malt/coffee flavor are very mild. The beer has a decent palate. This is a decent palate but the malts and the vanilla and the coffee, all seem very muted. In reading the description this beer leans more towards nutty for me than it does coffee. Decent brew.

This one pours a deep, opaque sable with a fairly thick light tan head. Aroma is smoky and coffee-ish with an overtone of vanilla, a little like coffee with vanilla flavored cream added. Flavor is strongly of fine roast coffee with a sweet vanilla overtone. Texture is very smooth, almost flat and just a little fizzy.

Poured a dark brown, with no head. Very slight vanilla aroma...Taste was very unique and quite enjoyable. Sweet chocolate, with some malts, and roasted nuts, followed up with a HUGE sweet vanilla finish...I really liked the vanilla flavor...But I LOVE vanilla flavored anything really. And this vanilla is VERY good...This was such a bizarre tasting beer, but really really good. I think this would be great to cook with, personally, would make a great sweet sauce for a dessert!

I guess I like this one a lot more than my peers. Aroma hints of the vanilla to come. Very dark with a large head. Taste is like a cream soda with malt. I was very impressed. I even let my wife try some.

A cookie in a glass. Completely dominated by the vanilla flavors. Given the earlier praise from some tasters, is it possible they accidently spilt a few gallons of extract into this batch??

I had heard great things about this beer before I tried it. Granted, I heard them from people who do not know that much about good beer, but still, you get my point. Wow, were they wrong. You might as well have just given me a vanilla been and told me to chew on that for awhile instead of having this beer. That is not to say that it is not well-crafted, it is for the most part, however there are issues in the body (thinness). My problem with the beer is that it tastes so much of vanilla that the nut and chocolate flavors get blown away and you are left with a vanilla bomb. If you have ever drank vanilla extract on accident you might know what I am talking about. If you liked it, then you should probably drink this beer.
