Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Bottle, light roasted malty aroma. Deep dark reddish color with medium tan head. Initial bitter metallic flavor. Mellows to a roasted malty flavor. Slight nutty quality, vanilla is not overly evident. Body is fairly thin. Sharp acidic tinge when it hits your mouth. Taste is best on the end of the duration. An ok porter.

Dark shade of brown with red highlights, but no head. Lots of carbonation-looked almost cola-like. Sweet vanilla and molasses aroma that seemed a little synthetic. Good blend of roasted malts and sharp, acidic, vanilla flavor. Comes across as a bit watery overall though and ends with a sticky, astringent finish.

12oz bottle courtesy of moejuck. Pours a dark brown body with a small khaki colored head. Virtually no retention and very spotty lacing. Nose of roasted malts, coffee grounds, vanilla extract, cocoa powder and some dark fruity esters. Aroma could stand to be more concentrated and bold for my liking. Vanilla bean, chocolate, roasted beans and malts, nuts and caramel make up the flavor profile. Heading towards the back end and through the finish the vanilla picks up a metallic artificial note that is not pleasing in the least. Very sweet towards the back of the swallow as well, losing much of the roasty character from earlier parts of the beer. Medium bodied, very "full" though if that makes sense, creamy mouthfeel, almost like a glass of hot chocolate. Best part of the beer, by a good margin. Finish is metallic, vanilla extract, chocolate, some sour fruits and finishes with a nice jolt of some roasted beans and caramel candy. Could be a good porter without the artificial notes creeping up and the sweetness being held in check. As it is it’s just above average, barely.

bottle. Aroma: Roasted malt, toffee, nuts, and vanilla. Was hoping for a bigger vanilla punch. Appearance: Medium brown in color with soft red highlights. Very light tan head was nice and creamy looking with good retention. Fair lacing. Flavor: Mild roast malt, toffee and nuts, a touch of anise, and vanilla. Again, I was hoping for more vanilla. It’s there, but doesn’t shine through the way I would have liked. Also, the vanilla tastes like an extract not a real vanilla bean flavor. Palate: Medium-light bodied and watery. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Disappointing. Was expecting the vanilla to shine here. It didn’t, and unfortunatly nothing else in the beer did either.

Draft: This poured a dark brown with a small amount of thick head. It had the aroma of roasted chocolate covered peanuts. The taste was a thick vanilla coffee. This had a nice vanilla finish to. Not bad.

Black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of cola slightly, chocolate, and vanilla. Flavor is quite the same, plenty of chocolate flavor along with a well balanced vanilla character that isn’t overpowering. Slight roast flavor in the end. This is a great change of pace and oh so satisfying.
