Well, the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter rocked that assumption. Gourmet milk chocolate, vanilla bean ice cream and a little cranberry make a sweet and eccentric flavor. It’s not dessert, but still distinguished for its association with the sugary peak of the food pyramid. Simple, yet effective. The aroma is sweet and inviting too - blueberries, black currant and pine resin make an entirely different but persistently sweet drink all around. I don’t usually have nice things to say about about Breckenridge Brewery’s beer, but this one is definitely a cut above the rest. 19641948 (491), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 20, 2007 Murky dark cola brown. Thin head of beige. Artificial vanilla aroma, along with some cocoa. Cloyingly sweet, with more artificial and chemical flavors. Not initially nasty, but it sure turns down that road quickly. stchloe (491), Portland, Oregon, USA

The spice is a good compliment, it is hard to describe except as a beer vanilla malt. Slacks (488), Bolton, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 28, 2009 12oz Bottle: Pours a murky dark brown, what little head had presented itself was not long for this world. Aroma is very sweet, malty, chocolate, cinnamon bread, and some sour lemon(?) for good measure. I love a beer that delivers what it promises and the vanilla is robust, up front, and not at all difficult to find. Roasty malts, sweet chocolate, just a hint of hops. I love the vanilla but it does perhaps overpower any subtleties that may exist otherwise, but I still must say I thoroughly enjoyed this. The aftertaste is great, I’d do this again anytime. shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 30, 2007 Though a tad sweeter than I usually go for, this is a highly credible brew. The vanilla presents itself rather subtly in the nose with a touch of smoke swirled through. The palate is a sugary vanilla blended with smoky, rich walnuts. gotohelunc (476), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

Overpoweringly delicious vanilla nose that hit me like French Vanilla coffee with more sweetness. Average darkness for a porter, nice tanish brown head. I’ll admit, after the first few sips, I hated this beer. The vanilla is so unusual it overpowered everything else, but as I worked through the pint it mellowed out and other flavors appeared. Thick molasses, coffee, caramel, and even some reconizable hops. Quite good. It did leave my mouth overly sticky sweet feeling, but that’s no surprise. Very interesting brew and enjoyable if you give it time and a chance. kassner (471), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA

Nice Sour malt aroma, Dark Brown but pretty clear, great head that holds and lacing. The Vanilla is not prevelant at all, but the full impact with lots of malt and really like a Sour,. . I read the other reiews but I don’t get vanilla at all, so maybe it is aging. ?????? chimplechamp (465), Oslo, Norway
