Nice Sour malt aroma, Dark Brown but pretty clear, great head that holds and lacing. The Vanilla is not prevelant at all, but the full impact with lots of malt and really like a Sour,. . I read the other reiews but I don’t get vanilla at all, so maybe it is aging. ?????? KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 11, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Pours a mid-to-dark brown. Smallish tan head quickly dissapates. Aroma of vanilla with hints of cocoa in the background. Initial mouthfeel of vanilla as well, but it quickly fades into a a sourish malty taste. Interesting take, but I don’t see myself drinking this again. asedzie (456), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Mar 9, 2008 Pours deep brownish black, no discernable head. Nose is vanilla, chocolate, tiny hints of lactic sourness. Flavor is lightly bitter, with mild bitterness and light astringency lingering in the finish. Palate is very full. Very nice consistency and balance. garrison (456), Cin. city, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 2, 2008 From a twelve ounce bottle presented to me as a Christmas present by my girlfriend Nancy - This one pours a very dark brown (very near black) brew with a fine tan head and a sweet, light aroma. Tastewise, this is one yummy brew, with a complex porter backing up the initial vanilla-malt sweetness. EKGoldings (447), Radford, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2007 Artificial vanilla extract tastes fake because of the chemically taste of ethyl vanillin, compared to the smoother taste from vanillin. Vanillin is present in vanilla beans, ethyl vanillin is not. Ethyl vanillin is added to the artificial vanilla extract along with vanillin because it is >3X stronger and more stable. That concludes our lesson for today LOL. I don’t get any fake vanilla character from this beer. In fact, I think the character is nicely integrated although a bit more obvious in the taste than I would probably brew myself. The roast character is also too restrained for my taste, so all in all a good attempt here but not a home run. MOboy (446), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 8, 2009 Pours dark brown with a wispy, quickly disappearing foam. Aroma of vanilla and Rollo’s. It has a full mouthfeel that lends itself nicely to the chocolatey vanilla flavor. VitaminR (438), Colorado, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Surprisingly had little nose. Dark brown with a hint of ruby. The vanilla is present, but almost tastes artificial? Not very complex, not very balanced, almost stale? Much better porters out there. highibus (435), Mill Creek, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 30, 2007 Pours a deep deep mahogany. Caramel and vanilla nose. Intense vanilla flavor, and that is a good thing. It seems just right. Very smooth and palatable. My favorite vanilla porter.
