Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Small sample from Wolfgang Puck in Denver Airport. Bit sweet for my liking, but interesting sample nonetheless.

Pours a deep black into the glass with very little head. Aroma is where this beer lacks the most, and is made mostly of sweetness. The flavor is really nice with plenty of toasted malts with a nice, but not over the top, vanilla. A nice beer, and for 5.99 a six pack you can’t beat it.

Pretty nappy, like rotten snatch, well maybe not that bad. Anyhow, may have been a drainpour if it wasnt for the fact that it was my only sixer available in the house. Pours a dark brown with no head. Nose is more coffee, not much vanilla detected. Taste is all wrong. Too sweet throughout, almost like an artificial sweetness with artificial vanilla. Astringent near the end. Not good. I hate this brewery.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, with red when held up to the light. Medium light brown head. Mild aroma of vanilla and some toasted malts and chocolate. Upfront taste is vanilla and then the chocolate and slight bitterness follow. Smooth, sticky, astringent.

12oz bottle.
Pours a clear dark ruby brown. White head is razor-thin but stays around for quite a while and leaves a moderate amount of lacing. Aroma is faint and basically vanilla and toffee without much else. Flavor is a buffet of vanilla, toffee, dry grain, lots of chocolate with a persistent raisin-like essence lingering on the back of the tongue. Surprisingly well-layered after the aroma suggested this beer would be tedious and one-dimensional. Medium-thick and creamy palate. A pretty impressive offering from a brewery that usually doesn’t excite me.

Pours dark brown with light brown to grey head. Nose has a surprising smoky roasty malt quality along with the vanilla. Flavor starts out with roasted flavors, some chocolate, but then just like a spicy food dish that builds in heat... the vanilla bitchslaps you in the face and doesn’t go away. It’s like I’m drinking one of those flavored coffees, but I prefer plain black coffee, and now I’m feeling used and abused.

On tap at the Brewery at the Ballpark. Pours dark brown with a light foamy tan head. Nice coffee and nut aroma. Little sweet vanilla flavor, then a mild balanced bitter, then a sweet vanilla finish. This is light bodied and a great porter. If you go in expecting vanilla, you’ll love this brew! One of the more memorable beers (out of 197) on this trip! A big huge vanilla bomb in a glass. Definitely underrated.
