Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Lakewood, Oh. - Rozi’s Fine Wines - 12 oz bottle. Dark cola pour, slightly funky aroma which settles down after a while - slightly phenolic at first. Flavor has some nice vanilla notes, a hint of root beer and cola, some marshmallows. Mouthfeel is a bit acidy. Decent novelty.

Bottle. Clear dark brown color with tan head that laced the glass. Aroma was of malty molasses. Tasted like a mixture of cream soda, milk chocolate, and vanilla. Strange combination, but not bad.

Bottle from BeerandBlues2. Dark brown. Minimal head. Aroma is all roasted malt. No vanilla, all coffee. Flavour is too sweet and way too vanilla. This is not a good idea. I am glad I split the bottle with Poperinge. 2007 had a second bottle and still not thrilled but slightly more appreciated.

Bottle, thanks to unclemike. Pours a see thru dark reddish brown. Small tan head. Aroma is vanilla and mabye even a hint of bourbon in the nose. Flavor is pretty rich...vanilla, bourbon, malty, and smooth. Some sweetness would make this a beer that I could only drink one per sitting, but I like it.

In the bottle from HyVee Council Bluffs. Pours a very dark brown with a dark beige head. The head is at first very fluffy, but disappates rapidly. Has a chocolate pie aroma. This beer is Hershey’s chocolate syrup milkshake sweet. Finish has a bit of a tingle. All that’s missing from this beer is the pie crust. The residual vanilla remains on your tongue for a long time. This is fairly unique in its strong sweetness, but by no means disgusting. I couldn’t drink more than one of these at a time.

It is what they say it is. I don’t have to search for the vanilla and it is easily recognizable as a porter. The vanilla is in the aroma as well as the flavor, but there is light coffee and some bitter chocolate in there as well. Rather sweet for a porter, and more so with the vanilla. They are not subtle at Breckenridge; they say vanilla porter and that is exactly what this is.

Aroma is very heavy roasted chocolatee malts with a gint of vanilla and nuttyness. Small, creamy, white brown heaed covering a dark brown body. Minimal lacing. Taste is somewhat unpleasent with a very sour taste. Very malty and earthy, not much vanilla or even chocolate. Watery mouthfeel with lively carbonation. Not as good as it sounds.

Dark reddish-brown color with a medium thick tan head with decent retention. The lacing is pretty good, it coats much of the glass. Strong vanilla aroma along with some chocolate and malt. Medium body, smooth with just a bit of carbonation. Flavors of vanilla bean, roasted malt and more chocolate. The finish maintains the vanilla theme, with a nice nutty flavor in the aftertaste. Unlike a lot of Breckenridge beers, I would actually seek this out to try again.
