Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Bottle from Enniskillen, Thanks, son! Nose of vanilla along with a little caramel and chocolate; clear ruby brown color with a tiny tan head; flavor of lots of vanilla and a little roasty chocolate..

Tap at a local restaurant - you pretty much need to love vanilla to like this beer, as it is almost all that I really taste - don’t get me wrong, it compliments the beer’s creamy body, and light hints of roasted malt, but that vanilla is sure potent - some notes of black malt and a hint of maple way in the back - rather full-flavored for a low ABV brew - just soooo much vanilla.

The aroma is sweet and has vanilla, coffee, and heavily toasted malt. But it also has paper and metal. The appearance is brown with a small head. The flavor is like the aroma with a little bitterness up front and a sweet finish. The palate is smooth. It’s partakeable for sure but not outstanding.

The pours a somewhat opaque brown with red highlights, the head is light tan, creamy and 1 inch in height, as it rapidly dissolves, the lacing forms a thin but complete covering of the glass. Nose has a nice malt sweetness, backed by burnt toast, caramel, and the unmistakable aroma of Vanilla, quite pleasing to the schnozzle. Start has a nice malt profile; the vanilla adding a bit of sweetness and a touch of bitterness, top is light to moderate in feel. Finish has a benign acidity, the hops and vanilla adding both sweetness and a bit of bitterness, a drinkable beer, pleasant to the palate.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and Beigaman, Harry’s bottle. Pitch black with red hues, small bubble brownish head. Wow, very strong vanilla aroma - but not real vanilla, more like a vanilla candy. Lots of hard candy, sugar, in this aroma, which I liked. Taste has a decent porter base, but then the artificial candy vanilla comes in and dominates. I thought it was neat at first and then a bit annoying and then by the end almost undrinkable - tough one to call really. Watery. A fun beer that I appreciated, I just might not have one again.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark, dark reddish body with a wispy, off-white head. Smell: How upsetting. Incredibly weak aroma of sour grains with a tinge of herbaceousness to it. Taste: Light, sour malt taste with a mild milk chocolate flavor. Only the faintest hint of vanilla crops up midway and lasts into the chocolate water finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Woefully weak and unappealing.

Bottle: Black as night, large foamy sand colored head, fairly nice lacing.   Nose is spot on with Tapioca Pudding.   Pale roasted malts, sweet chocolate, and HEAPS of vanilla on the tongue.   This probably has the most vanilla I have ever tasted.   Not a big Porter, but certainly unique, and quite sweet (but not cloying).   Body and mouthfeel are average.   Vanilla oriented chocolate malt finish.   This is a definite dessert beer.   Very little hop presense, moreso the chocolate malt and vanilla.   Pretty tasty...
