Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Black. Vanilla tasting as it should be. Had a good body. It tasted like a light cream soda.

Almost black with deep ruby edges. Off-white head quickly vanishes. Roast and vanilla on the nose. Big vanilla flavor that fills the palate. Full flavor and nice mouthfeel, but this beer is a bit thin in complexity. Not a powerhouse in this category, but this beer could be enjoyed year round.

Pours a traditional black porter color with a short, quickly dissolving tan head, leaving some lacing on the glass. A pleasant aroma leads to an intense vanilla flavor immediately upon tasting. This porter leaves a nice chocolatey/vanilla aftertaste and is pleasant on the palate. Would like a bit more of an alcohol flavor to a porter, however. Contrary to a large portion of the posts here, I found the vanilla flavor quite impressive; if you’re gonna make a flavored porter, no reason to half-ass it, and Breckenridge definitely didn’t skimp on the flavor...on a short side note, I have noted strong differences in flavor from bottle to bottle (have had 3-4 bottles of this beer...would be interesting to try on tap)

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium sized beige head that hangs on for a bit. The aroma is coffee, roasted malt, light chocolate, and vanilla. The flavor comes off a bit sweeter than the aroma let on. The vanilla and roasted malt take center stage with the coffee and chocolate moving more toward the finish. Medium/medium-full mouthfeel and easy to drink. I am surprised this isn’t rated higher.

The beer pours a dark brown to a black with a thin brown white head. The nose is a mix of Carmel coffee and vanilla. The taste is as deep as the beer is dark it is a great mix of roasted malts and an underpinning of vanilla with a clean sweet vanilla finish.

This is one of the better vanilla flavored brews that I have tried.. maybe the fact it was a porter saved this beer. It was good but I will not reach for it in the future.

Pours dark ruby, thick beige head that dissipates to a fantastically clingy lacing. Aroma has a faint vanilla hint. Thin mouthfeel, somewhat malty, and the vanilla is very subtle. Really taste it on the back end. Pleasing but not fantastic. It’s not as hardy as I’d expect a porter to be, if it wasn’t for the vanilla, there’d be almost nothing there to taste.

Let me first say that when I first had this beer, I absolutely hated it. The vanilla was so dominant in it that it was sickening. So as a "present" I dropped the last three I couldn’t pawn off in a buddy’s fridge. That was about a year ago. Tonight for the heck of it, I cracked the lid on his last one. Boy am I glad I did. I was rewarded with one of the better beers I’ve had in awhile. So here we go... 12 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with small ruby highlights and a small, light tan head. The nose is heavy with chocolate but also a slightly vegetative smell. Medium carbonation and a rich mouthfeel. The palate was quite enjoyable with the immediate taste of milk chocolate, light vanilla notes, and some latte thrown in. Rich and delicious! As the beer warmed, stronger coffee notes emerged, but not enough to overpower the milk chocolate taste. It had a medium finish with lingering chocolate notes. Quite nice! I wouldn’t recommend it while young, but you will be rewarded if you let one of these sit around in the fridge for a few months!
