Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Bottle. Aroma is of light roast and malt. Beige head on a rubypitch body. After letting it set for a few moments, the vanilla scent really shines through, like opening a bottle of extract. Also carries over into the taste, a strong component of a well-rounded porterish taste: roast, ash tray, a splash of sourness, and slight dark chocolate. A little gritty and a little oily/syrupy. Medium body is a little weak around the edges. Gets sweeter toward the end until it suddenly drops off in a dry, gritty finish. In the bigger picture, the vanilla is little more than an accent. This needs time to warm up. Successful experiment!

Bottle sampled. Pours a deep brown with a light tan head. Aroma of vanilla, molasses, and coffee with a sweet and creamy flavor of vanilla, caramel, and some chocolate notes. A very good porter.

Bottle. Medium brown color with small lacing type head. Light roasted malty aroma. Taste is sweet with light vanilla and roasted malt. I think this is well done unlike some vanilla flavored brews that taste like vanilla extract.

12oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown. Creamy milk shake looking head. Aroma is of rich vanilla beans, chocolate malts like an overly chocolate flavored malt shake. Flavor is a water base version of a chocolate malted milk shake. Big vanilla flavors, nice chocolate malts. Maybe even some flavors of marshmallows. a nice Winter season session.

I haven’t had too many beers flavored with vanilla that I have liked, so this will be the exception for sure. The pour was almost black, but not quite all the way. The head was a strong tan color. The aroma is sweet--definite vanilla, roasted malt, and coffee as well. The flavors were the same, and I was glad to find out that there wasn’t any of the medicine type flavors that I normally get from the vanilla flavored beers. The mouthfeel is almost right, but just slightly too thin for a porter. If this was a bit thicker, it would be even more enjoyable.

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Faint aromas of coffee, chocolate and vanilla on the nose. Flavor is roasty, with a little chocolate and vanilla sweetness. Not bad.

On tap at brewpub. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma is roast malt, chocolate, caramel and light vanilla. Flavor is roasty with chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. Nice vanilla sweetness. Very smooth on the palate and an easy drinker. Solid porter.
