Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

Poured a dark brown with minimal white head. Aroma was dark, sweet malt with just a slight hint of the vanilla. In the flavor, the malt was more dark and roasted. The vanilla is used well in this brew. It’s not overwhelming (but close), but it is a nice touch. No ttoo bad at all.

Pours a very dark but clean copper. Has a small light tan head with moderate carbonation. The initial aroma was almost sour but quickly turned to mild malt, cocoa, and faint vanilla. The flavor however is pretty big vanilla. Also malt, chocolates and nutty. Not bad.

Black pour with substantial tan head. Malts and vanilla toasted flavors with some coffee going down. Sweet aftertaste, nice overall.

Pint at Denver pub 10/12/2008. Slight smokiness and vanilla hints in aroma. Dark amber brown with small tan head. Nice vanilla bean flavor and roast up front. Medium body and mouthfeel. Finish is fairly dry and slightly astringent.

A light black color, and a small but foamy head. Vanilla does not show up in the aroma. Flavor is a sweet porter with a strong vanilla note. Very little bitterness. Not a magical experience, but I love vanilla. I think it’s a delicious beer. As a beer noob I think I might overrate this one somewhat, but I really like it a lot. Flavor is where it’s at. It is a bit thin and watery.

My first ever vanilla porter, and it was a nice experience. The pour is a reddish-black when held to the light, with a tiny cap of light tan head. Smells of roasted malt, a touch of coffee, and some sweetness like molasses. Flavor brings up the vanilla in the body, overwhelming sweetness at first, but the flavors mellow and fall off quickly and leave a smooth aftertaste. The roasted malt bitterness and heavy cream help the situation. Other than the wild initial flavor, this is a very nice flavored porter.

This beer is a pretty good porter, but it’s not as good as you want it to be. It does not make the best use of its vanilla flavor, and it doesn’t have too many other standout characteristics about it. Above average, but not earth shattering.
