Commercial Description:
Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea.

I thought this was good overall porter, delicately Sweet, roasted malt, not a lot of backbone or hop balance, but good enough to get again, rather flat looking light tan head.

This wasnt bad at all. Pours out a darker brown color with nearly no head. aroma was sweet, malty, and of course had plenty of vanilla in to. Flavor did as well. Flavor was choco, and roasted malt, but the finish was all vanilla.

12 oz. bottle - Pours a clear brown color with a half finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Light roasted malt aroma. The vanilla comes through nicely in the flavor. A smooth, light to medium body beer. Nice beer. The wife really likes it too.

Poured into a shaker. Dark brown with some ruby highlights. Billowing light tan head. Some good lace. Still, the beer appears a bit thin to look at. The aroma and flavor features a pronounced vanilla character that comes off like candy. The flavor has some light chocolate and roasted notes, but I can’t get by the vanilla in the aroma. The palate is good. Silky and pretty full over the tongue. Thanks to BeerandBlues2 for the hookup.

Pours to a very dark brown with red hues. Nice thick suede colored head. Good lacing. The aroma is chocolate, vanilla, burnt sugars, bubblegum (breathe lightly), marshmallow goo. The flavor is nicely toasted marshmallows, vanilla, Nilla wafers, hot chocolate, more marshmallows. Lingering marshmallow feel, drying, medium body. The vanilla is a bit light.

A specialty beer - Not fair to compare this to a classic Porter - it doesn’t quite fit. Think of a vanilla ice cream float. Think something to serve with an intense chocolate cake. An after dinner drink. Kahlua as a beer. There should be a special category - remember Sam Adams Triple Bock (brewed with maple sugar). Great potential for a chef. Aroma is noticeably vanilla. Appearance - medium molasses color, brief pale head. Definately vanilla with a nice cakey background. Reminds of the classic Guiness chocolate cake. Overall pleasant if your ready for it, but if your expecting a classic Porter....

Bottle. Pours a black coffee color with a thin tan head. Nose has some vanilla notes and has a sweetness to it. The vanilla became even more distant on the palate but the sweetness mellowed the overall deep roasted qualities of the brew. Although I am not a dark beer person, I have been liking those that are flavored and this was no different. Nice beer. Thanks to thiesti for this bottle.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Doboy - thanks Ed. Deep clear mahogany and a mediu, receding tan head. No hint of vanilla here - nit’s up front and in your face (and nose). Chocolate and roasted malt notes barely break through. Very creamy mouthfeel, medium/full body, Sweet caramel flavors dominate, gentle bittering at the finish. Just too much vanilla for my tastes.
