Aroma is vanilla and roasted malt...smells like a bakery. The roasted malt is very good (burnt taste) however I feel the vanilla interferes with it... very buttery. Definitely not a drinker but a dessert. Good winter brew...very rich. wizzler (25), Manitowoc, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 3, 2006 Bottle, pours deep brown/black with a bright white head that dissipates quickly, minor lacing. Aroma of malts, vanilla and molasses. Flavor is strong on the vanilla, with more molasses, and a touch of roasted malts on the finish. Agree with earlier comments about the vanilla being a bit too center stage, and a touch thin. An interesting deviation on a traditional porter but not necessarily for the better. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 23, 2007 12oz bottle courtesy of moejuck. Pours a dark brown body with a small khaki colored head. Virtually no retention and very spotty lacing. Nose of roasted malts, coffee grounds, vanilla extract, cocoa powder and some dark fruity esters. Aroma could stand to be more concentrated and bold for my liking. Vanilla bean, chocolate, roasted beans and malts, nuts and caramel make up the flavor profile. Heading towards the back end and through the finish the vanilla picks up a metallic artificial note that is not pleasing in the least. Very sweet towards the back of the swallow as well, losing much of the roasty character from earlier parts of the beer. Medium bodied, very "full" though if that makes sense, creamy mouthfeel, almost like a glass of hot chocolate. Best part of the beer, by a good margin. Finish is metallic, vanilla extract, chocolate, some sour fruits and finishes with a nice jolt of some roasted beans and caramel candy. Could be a good porter without the artificial notes creeping up and the sweetness being held in check. As it is it’s just above average, barely. travita (1924), Frisco, Texas, USA

I got some of the vanilla in the smell but not a whole lot in the taste. Some coffee and a little chocolate in the aroma and taste as well. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Nutty, roasted malts, cinnamon and vanilla in the aroma. Mouthfeel is genuinely creamy, well balanced. Taste is enticing, sweet, not too sweet- vanilla, hints of coffee, toffee and butterscotch. lithy (1725), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Lots of vanilla in the flavor, some roast, chocolate, strange finish with the overpowering vanilla. MtStateBeer (81), Hurricane, West Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a coca cola brown with a reddish hue, decent frothy light brown head, good lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, nuts, coffee, and vanilla. Flavor is vanilla, caramel and roasted malts, and a touch of chocolate. Mouthfeel is thin for a porter, creamy, and a roasted bitterness at the end. Pretty good, a little too much sweetness.
