Aroma of earthy porter with a hint of vanilla. Medium to light body mouth palate. Lightly roasted malts and vanilla flavor immediately. Not bad. This is my first vanilla porter, so take my ratings with a grain of salt. drainey (231), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 29, 2006 Bottle. Dark brown body with a good head. Aroma is nice with chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is bold, but tastes more like vanilla flavoring has been added to the beer, than like vanilla porter. Not a bad beer, but I like it less the more I drink. Mineral and chocolate, lightly nutty with a hint of vanilla and coffee bitterness. Thin dry body. okay. MacDaddyOJake (274), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 6, 2007 Slight head cold, but I tried this one anyways. Even though I couldnt breath very well, all I got was vanilla! Tons of vanilla flavor and then the roasted qualities. My friends all agreed, so my sense of taste could not have been far off. A tad thin for a winter beer.... needs some more malt to beef up the body and alcohol percentage. Really just an average porter with an unaverage ingredient. zsb19 (62), Villa Hills, Kentucky, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 13, 2006 Bottle - Pours deep dark brown with very thin tan head that disappears rather quickly. Aroma full of vanilla and a sweet malty character. Palate is medium in body with a light oily feel. Upfront taste is like roasted coffee. Follow through is full of vanilla sweetness and seems more like flat vanilla cola than beer. Vanilla kind of goes sour in the aftertaste and ends up a tad acidic. Overall, this is an interesting twist on a standard porter and worth a try for something different. JCB (1781), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 14, 2009 12oz bottle from TheBeerSommelier - thanks, Matt! Pours surprisingly light, with substantial amounts of copper in the dark brown pour. Big fizzy head. The aroma is strong, but not quite how I remember this beer. Whereas I recall a smooth, slightly overpowering vanilla, this one actually recalls cream soda, with a slight metallic overtone. Taste is much more to expectations, with a thick mouthfeel that makes this less like beer than a candy delivery vehicle. This beer wants to grow up and become Southern Tier Creme Brulee. 17thfloor (1498), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 8, 2007 Great looking beer! Deep brown nearly black with medium froathy tan head. Aroma is vanilla and roasted malt...smells like a bakery. The roasted malt is very good (burnt taste) however I feel the vanilla interferes with it... very buttery. Definitely not a drinker but a dessert. Good winter brew...very rich. HopBackDoc (395), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA
